The Charlotte Alumni Association invites you to our next social on Thursday, Sept 18 at the
home of Mark Kearschner ('80 Indiana Sigma), 9705 Waterton Ct, Huntersville, NC, from
7pm - 9 pm. Light food and beverage is provided, and spouses/dates are welcome. Casual

NC Beta News
NC Beta (founded 2012) at UNC Charlotte was 1 of 20 chapters (and the only one, and the
first, in the Carolinas) awarded the SAE Chapter Achievement Award at the 79th John O
Moseley Leadership School this summer. In addition, the chapter advisor Johnny White was

NC Theta News
The new alumni advisory committee for our chapter at Davidson now includes: Matt Merrell
‘84, Cyrus Saffari ’13, William “Bill” Rawson ‘56, and Patrick Currie ‘90, plus John
Stringfellow and Bob Cameron ‘67. The chapter’s Homecoming will be Sat, Sept 20, and the
annual reunion social includes the “Blue Dogs” band. Lead singer Bobby Houck, is a chapter
alumnus as well as several other members of the band founded in the 1980s. Visit their

We are also planning another social at the home of Brother Ron Campbell (’86 Penn
Zata/Penn State), 1200 Shinnecock Lane (Firethorne) in Marvin, NC on Thursday, Oct 23,

Spotlight
Meet Bobby Beard, ’75 SC Phi/Furman, and National Accounts
Manager with Piedmont Plastics. Bobby states: “I began my sales
career at the tender age of 10 – selling newspapers in my
hometown of Mobile Alabama. My parents taught me to be
respectful to elders and always say “Yes sir and No Mam”. That
guidance has propelled me to have a sales career over the last 50
years. To me “successful selling” is about establishing and
maintaining relationships. It is a tremendous asset to have a grasp
and knowledge of the products and applications that you are promoting. My career at
Piedmont started at the age of 31. I have had the privilege to work directly for some of the
most talented folks in our industry. My first position at Piedmont was an OSR. 7
responsibilities and 29 years later, I still enjoy the competitive nature of our business.
Making a contribution, is a powerful motivator. Much of my career, I have been the “Marine
Guy” recently I shifted positions and now head up our National Accounts Program. Reach

Welcome Scott Burnett, '10 KY Epsilon/U of Kentucky, who is a Collateral Analyst with 25 Capital

Alex McGrail '14 NC Beta, is now a Business Analytics Consultant at Allstate. In addition, he has
agreed to step up as a volunteer and vice president of the Charlotte SAE Alumni Association. As we
build an alumni committee, he and others will assist in recruiting new members, help us strategize
on types of socials, and networking with younger alumni.

Meet Stoke Caldwell '78 Va Upsilon/Hampden-Sydney, who is an attorney with the Robinson,
Bradshaw & Hinson, P.A. law firm.
Alex Burdine '12 NC Omega/WCU, is the Marketing and Speedway TV Coordinator at the Charlotte
Motor Speedway. He runs the day-to-day operations of the Speedway TV (the Jumbo-Tron). On
race day he is part of the crew for the live production of Speedway TV. Also he works in the
Marketing department assisting with commercials, TV shows, web videos, and other means to
promote Charlotte Motor Speedway and the events taking place here
Chad Beddingfield, '14 SC Delta/USC, is now a Hospitality & Marketing Intern with the Carolina
Panthers. Chad is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High.
Shannon Rushing, '07 NC Omega/WCU, is now Talent Acquisition Partner with Ingersoll Rand.
