Guardian’s North America Flat Glass division is currently seeking an individual to fill the position of Logistics Specialist. This position will be based at the world headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, but position responsibilities will also require time spent visiting our U.S. glass manufacturing operations, logistics partners and industry conferences. The position will be a key component of Guardian’s supply chain initiatives and will report to the Supply Chain Director – North America. The Logistics Specialist is responsible for supporting the business in the execution of transportation for finished goods, purchased materials and capital equipment in North America (Domestic & International). The successful candidate will work with internal and external stakeholders to identify logistics optimization opportunities utilizing solid data analysis and technology driven best-in-class logistics practices in North America. Responsibilities Carrier Management: - Build strong, value-adding relationships with strategic Ocean logistic partners - Participate in shipping consortium operating committees - Lead quotation and contracting processes for all ocean export lanes on an annual basis as well as spot quotations - Assist in the selection and management of external freight forwarders and customs brokers, as required, including metrics development and reporting capability Internal Relationship Management: - Partner with and support Guardian U.S. glass manufacturing operations and sales teams in creating a competitive advantage in logistics and customer service - Manage the relationship between the carriers and Guardian in the areas of improvement opportunities and issue resolution - Support Global Logistics Manager for regional integration efforts, reporting, and collaborative projects across regions and/or business units Leadership & Behavioral Competencies: - Customer Focus: Develop and sustain productive internal and external customer relationships - Logistics Leadership: A self-starter with the confidence to develop and effectively communicate logistics strategy across Guardian Industries NA Flat Glass sites as well as take input to ensure business needs are being met - Time Management: Ability to multitask between both strategic and tactical activities - Strategic Thinking: Have the skills necessary to understand the current state, identify means to control and measure the current state, and the ability to develop a detailed plan to achieve a more optimal future state in logistics Data Analysis and Financial Management: - Analyze detailed logistics data to identify cost savings and service level improvement opportunities - Secure and evaluate logistics quotations from carriers in the time frame required for each project - Utilize data to provide detailed financial analysis as well as forecast versus actual spend for logistics - Ensure contractual obligations and expected service levels are met or exceeded - Develop and support logistics metrics reporting as required Technology Utilization: - Leverage existing technology which includes a Transportation Management System (TMS) to identify and drive cost savings opportunities - Identify and evaluate potential future technology tools to drive the organization forward in the area of logistics Compliance: - Coordinate training programs on regulatory compliance for internal stakeholders - Maintain a working knowledge of US Government regulatory environments (CBP, Department of Treasury, etc.), and be able to identify and escalate any potential issues to Compliance and Legal - Support annual NAFTA qualification and certification process for applicable products - Assist in documented policy development for trade compliance initiatives – coordinate workshops, facilitate communication and supporting documentation, etc. Qualifications: BA/BS required in Business, Materials Management, Logistics or Supply Chain Management 3 – 5 years of experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably in the industrial products sector Solid systems knowledge (Transportation Management Systems, Microsoft Office and Project) Extensive knowledge of logistics and various transportation modes (Ocean, Truckload, Flatbed, Intermodal, Specialized, Heavy Haul) Knowledgeable on transportation related regulations and governing bodies (CSA 2010, DOT, FMCSA, Hours of Service rules) Strong data analysis and presentation skills Travel: 30%+ domestic travel can be expected (occasional international travel) Guardian Industries is a diversified global manufacturing company with leading positions in float glass and fabricated glass products for the commercial and residential construction industries.
