The Board of Directors of the AGRICULTURE and FOOD FAIR of the U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS is sponsoring the first 2015 ART DESIGN CONTEST to obtain artwork celebrating the 2015 Fair theme “Agriculture–The HEART of It All!” and suitable for reproduction on the official fair poster, t-shirts and other promotional items to be sold at the fair February 14-16, 2015. Open to all Virgin Islands high school and college students GENERAL GUIDELINES Artwork submitted must: illustrate the theme, “Agriculture – The Heart of It All!” be presented on a 22” x 28” canvas panel in the portrait orientation using any medium be suitable for reproduction in all mediums adhere to the following submission deadlines and rules: SUBMISSION DEADLINE PUBLIC PREVIEW PRELIMINARY BOARD PREVIEW FINAL SELECTION Friday October 3, 2014 Thursday & Sunday October 16 & 19, 2014 Friday October 24, 2014 Friday November 7, 2014 (Please note: All dates are subject to change.) All artwork will be displayed during World Food Day in October, 2014 and at the 2015 Fair A juried panel of judges representing art, agriculture and education will conduct preliminary evaluation of all art work and recommend the top entries to the Board for further consideration The Board will select the final winner(s) Winning entries will be unveiled on or about Friday, November 7, 2014 Winners will receive a cash award to be determined by the Board In selecting the winning artwork, special emphasis will be given to how effectively the submission celebrates the fair theme. Additional consideration will also be given to how well the winning design will look on a poster, t-shirt and other fair promotional pieces. RULES 1. Open to all Virgin Islands high school and college students (high school, homeschooled, on-line, UVI or any other post-secondary institution); education level determined as of 9/1/14. 2. Each artist is limited to one submission 3. An entry form (see attached) must be submitted with each entry. If artist is under the age of 18 (as of 9/1/14), entry form must be signed by a parent/guardian. All entries must be endorsed by a school or UVI representative as outlined below. 4. For enrollment verification purposes only, each entry must be signed by an official school representative; representatives may be an art teacher, school administrator (principal, assistant principal or counselor), or UVI faculty/staff/administrator. 5. IMPORTANT: The artist should NOT include the theme, dates or any other wording in the artwork; the Board will establish type-style and specific information that will appear on the finished poster, merchandise and marketing materials. The winning design will be incorporated into the appropriate layout and accompanied by the necessary fair copy and information. 6. Submissions must be of suitable quality and must be the original work of the artist. 7. The Board retains the right to approve the final design. The artist may be asked to make adjustments to better meet the needs of all mediums to which the design will be applied. Once agreement between the artist and the Board is reached, final selection will be confirmed. If agreement cannot be reached, the Board reserves the right to select another design. 8. The winning artist agrees to be present during the Opening Ceremony for the Fair on Saturday, February 14, 2015, for purposes of signing the poster or any other artwork deemed appropriate. 9. The Board retains exclusive rights to use selected artwork in all forms and formats, and may reproduce artwork in any fashion, including multimedia and electronic imaging, all or any portion of the design, and to distribute for profit any reproductions of the design on Fair clothing, merchandise and goods, including, but not limited to posters, note cards, post cards, t-shirts, bags, hats and aprons. 10. The winning artist(s) will receive a cash award to be determined by the Board and presented at the Opening Ceremony. 11. All winning submissions become the property of the Board. All artwork, winning or not, will be displayed during World Food Day and at the 2015 Fair. Upon completion of the 2015 Fair, artwork not selected will be returned to the artists. Artists will be notified as to when and where artwork may be picked up. 12. The Board reserves the right to reject any and all submissions. If deemed necessary, the Board will reopen the contest to the public if the selection jury deems that a wider range of suitable submissions is needed.
