WTS 2015 RECOGNITION AWARDS CALL FOR NOMINATIONS Nominations must be received by COB, August 10, 2015 MEMORANDUM DATE: July 2015 TO: WTS-DC Chapter Members FROM: Kate Lefkowitz and Waiching Wong, Recognitions Co-Chairs WTS-DC 15’ WTS-DC is now seeking nominations for the 2015 Recognition Awards. The winning award nominations from each WTS chapter will be submitted to WTS International for the International Awards presented at the Annual Conference. We are proud to recognize the WTS-DC Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award winner of 2015, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, who received the WTS International Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership award of the year. We encourage all members to consider a full range of potential nominees for the categories. Submitting a nomination is a great way to honor those who support our organization and its goals, and to heighten awareness of WTS in the transportation community. For 2015, the awards are: WTS-DC Member of the Year WTS-DC Woman of the Year WTS-DC Employer of the Year WTS-DC Diversity Leadership Award WTS-DC Innovative Transportation Solutions Award WTS International Secretary Ray LaHood Award (Man of the Year) Nominations are due to Kate Lefkowitz (klefkowitz@camsys.com) no later than 5:00 pm EST on August 10, 2015. The following summarizes each of the award categories; however, please refer to the specific criteria that must be addressed in your nomination (forms provided): Member of the Year: Recognizes a WTS member who has made extraordinary contributions to the success of the organization. Woman of the Year: Honors a woman who is an outstanding role model and has contributed to the advancement of women and minorities in transportation. Employer of the Year: Honors an organization (company, non-profit, association or government agency) for recruiting, retaining and advancing women. www.wtsinternational.org WTS is dedicated to excellence in transportation through the achievement and success of women. Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award: Honors an individual(s) or organization(s) that has made significant contributions in promoting diversity and cultural awareness within their organization, the transportation industry, or in a project or activity that supports the goals and mission of WTS. Innovative Transportation Solutions Award: This award salutes an innovative transportation project led by a woman. Secretary Ray LaHood Award (Man of the Year): This category is designed to reach out beyond our membership to honor a man who is an outstanding role model and advocate for women in transportation. Note: Depending on the qualifications of our nominees, not all award categories are necessarily recognized annually by the Chapter, or forwarded to WTS International. SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS 1. Use the attached nomination forms to submit the nominations. Please provide an overview of the nominee’s background and experience in the “introduction” section. Then describe how the candidate meets each individual criteria. The nomination cannot exceed two single-sided pages in length. Any pages beyond the second page will NOT be included in the ballot. 2. Submit one nomination for one person, company, or project for each award category. Sample nomination forms are included. 3. The nomination must be typed and saved as a Word document. 4. Make sure your own (nominating) contact information appears on each form submitted. 5. Selection shall be based on the following criteria: 1. A member who has shown an extraordinary commitment to the goals and growth of WTS by working effectively in support of WTS goals. (Identify activities.) 2. A member who has promoted the reputation of WTS within the transportation industry. A member who has worked effectively to strengthen communication between local and international WTS levels or between chapters. 4. A member who has done an outstanding job of revitalizing or expanding a chapter or any of its functions. NOTE: Members of the International Board of Directors should not be considered for Member of the Year merely because they have made significant current contributions to their local chapters. Woman of the Year - This category is designed to reach out beyond our membership to honor a woman who is an outstanding role model in transportation. Selection shall be based on the following criteria: 1. A woman who is a leader in transportation and has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry. 2. A woman who has directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field. 3. A woman who through her career achievements and support of women in the industry has advanced the reputation and credibility of women in transportation. Employer of the Year - This award honors an organization (company, non-profit, association or government agency) for recruiting, retaining and advancing women. Selections shall be based on the following criteria: 1. An organization that includes women in executive and senior positions and leading major initiatives. 2. An organization that has career development plans and succession programs in place for women to advance within the organization. 3. An organization that provides continuing development for its female employees through: a. Professional education b. Professional organizations c. Professional development opportunities 4. An organization that encourages women students to enter the transportation field by providing internship opportunities. 5. Contributing significantly to promoting diversity, inclusion and multi-cultural awareness within their organization, the transportation industry, or in a project or activity that supports the goals and mission of WTS. Innovative Transportation Solutions Award– This award salutes an innovative transportation project led by a woman. Applications/nominations for the Innovative Transportation Solutions award should include the following: 1. A description of the purpose of the transportation initiative, solution, project or policy and the number of women involved from initiation to completion. 2. Identify the key elements of the project and how the female project manager successfully implemented those elements. 3. Illustrate how the female project manager successfully met and overcame challenges. 4. Explain how the project achieve its purpose. Secretary Ray LaHood Award 1. A man who is a leader in transportation and has made an outstanding contribution to the transportation industry. 2. A man who has directly contributed toward the advancement of women and minorities through programs or opportunities in the transportation field. 3.
