Job Purpose
Deliver a high standard of A level teaching across all Sociology subjects
Prepare and mark work including the setting of homework and regular assessments to monitor and
record learners’ progress
Act as a personal tutor for A Level Students
Contribute to curriculum development, student support and administration within the School
Post Key Duties
Deliver high quality teaching of A level sociology employing a range of teaching and learning
practices successfully
Work collaboratively with subject teachers in the Humanities team to drive the progress and
achievement of learners on a science programme
Facilitate a high quality learning experience which provides learners with the opportunity to
achieve their full potential
Have high expectations of learners and seek to address any barriers to their learning
Promote active and independent learning that enables learners to think for themselves and plan to
manage their own learning
Plan and deliver a differentiated and personalised curriculum that engages the learners and
enables them to make the best possible progress
Support the 6th Form’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and
academic growth
Include numeracy and literacy in all teaching and learning practices
Set challenging but achievable targets and prepare learning programmes that enable learners to
achieve these
Carry out regular and thorough assessment of learners’ on-course progress and make best use of
learner data to inform lesson planning, personalised action plans and targets
Utilise the college’s VLE in order to promote and support teaching and learning
Be involved in learner support and enrichment activities to provide the best student experience in
Sociology
Be responsive to innovations and changes in the teaching of Sociology
Prepare reports, for example on attendance, retention, exam results, student progress, tutor
statements and destinations
Attend parents’ evenings, student interview days, marketing events and college open days as
required to represent and promote the 6th Form
Respond to student disciplinary and behavioural problems in line with College disciplinary and
incident management procedures
Promote equality and diversity in all areas of responsibilities
Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Head of School
Undertake continuous professional development

Generic College Responsibilities
Employees will commit themselves to personal development through the College Performance
Management Development Framework. Managers will commit themselves to operating objective
and constructive assessments of performance and will be responsible with their work colleagues for
agreeing performance targets to improve and maintain College services supported by individual
development plans and development processes.

Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Sociology
PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification (or willingness to obtain one within two 

Mathematics (or to achieve BKSB equivalent within six weeks of appointment)
