Character Trait: Brave
Character Trait: Loving
Katniss shows that she is brave by fighting back any
sign of emotion because crying will make the other
tributes think she’s weak. She proved this by stating.
“I can’t stay here. Flight is essential.”…”But I can’t let
my fear show”. Also, she actually shoots an arrow at
the judges during the pregame trial because they
were not paying attention to her.
16 year old Katniss showed how much she loved her
younger sister Prim when she volunteers to take her
place as District 12’s female representative in the
Hunger Games. Katniss knows that she is risking her
life to keep her sister safe. Moreover, she is devoted
to Rue even though she is an opponent in the Hunger
Games.
The Hunger Games
Character: Katniss Everdeen
Character Trait: Determined
I think Katniss shows that she is
determined by being the sole provider for
her mother and younger sister Prim. She
hunts everyday to provide the food that
will keep her family from starving. She
stays in the woods for long periods of
time until she is able to bring food home
for her mother and Prim. In addition, I
think her acts of defiance against the
Capitol in the arena showed that she was
determined to make her own path in life.
She actually became known as "The
Mockingjay", and led the rebellion to
victory against the Capitol, ending a 75year-long oppression.

Question “What character from another book would Katniss be friends
with?”:
I think Katniss would be friends with Hermoine Granger (from the Harry
Potter series) because they not only have values in common, but also
have personality traits that would balance each other out. As a
Gryffindor, Hermoine is just as determined, brave, and loyal as Katniss.
Both girls are willing to sacrifice themselves for their family and friends.
For example, just as Hermoine wiped all memories of herself from her
muggle parents’ minds to keep them safe, Katniss gave herself up as a
willing player in the Games so that her sister would be safe. I think that
they would respect each other for doing things like this. Another reason
they would be friends is that they approach problems differently, and
would be able to round each other out as a team. While Katniss acts
bravely on instinct (as seen in the way she answers public questions, or
the way she shot that apple out of the pig’s mouth to be noticed),
Hermoine gives a lot of forethought and book research to her plans. If
they worked together, Hermoine could help Katniss with research (and
magic) to reach her goals.
Character Development
Yes, I believe Katniss did grow as a character over the course of
the book. At the beginning, she was a dreamer. She said she
hated the way the Capitol treated her district, and had vague
dreams about running away—dreams she had no intention on
following up on. However, once she volunteered to be a player
in the games, her life changed. She had to learn to survive
moment by moment, so she stopped dreaming uselessly and
started acting. Instead of just saying that she hated the Capitol’s
rules and wanted to rebel, she publically rebelled. She did this by
not playing by the rules in the arena—instead of killing all
contestants, she protected two of them, and refused to give
them a single victor at the end by almost eating the poison
berries.
