"Interview of Reference Librarian" A. Identified User Groups: Students, teachers, interested adults. Informational Needs: directional, medical, legal, mechanical, general curiosity B. Types of reference services provided to users in this library: Out-of-state calls for obituaries, limited amount of research for family history/genealogy, ready reference services, calendar of events, downloadable media, homework help services, assistance or instruction in the use of the library, online search assistance, identifying library materials, basic computer help, assistance with online data bases C. Library users are able to ask their questions through a variety of ways: in-person, over the telephone, online (e-mail, facebook), or text. Reference questions are answered by the reference librarian first developing an understanding of the user's needs. If the needs are in a specific field the reference librarian that specializes in that field is used as a resource first (when available). The reference librarian I spoke with said it is first important to understand what information the user is looking for and to ask questions for clarification. After using the needed resources (i.e. catalog, internet, etc) to help the user, it is important to verify that the question(s) were answered. The reference librarian that I spoke with was very friendly and helpful. She didn't specify that I was welcome to come back with any additional questions but I felt that the "open-door" policy was applicable.
