For students at Bellarmine-Jefferson High School, this dream has become a reality. Students are learning how to code, and providing invaluable feedback to developers at an emerging online learning company by reviewing new and engaging online content. It’s all part of an exciting partnership that began in February between Bellarmine-Jefferson High School and Tech Rocket (www.techrocket.com), an online learning platform for kids and teens to learn valuable STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) skills, year-round and on-demand. The curriculum includes online learning channels in programming languages like Java and iOS app development, as well as game design tracks including Minecraft Modding. Tech Rocket developers, who have an office in Burbank, approached Bellarmine-Jefferson High School to help them test some new classes and online curriculum currently in development. “We approached Bellarmine-Jefferson High School because we were seeking feedback on our content and also wanted to provide their students the ability to learn STEM in a new way,” said Tech Rocket Program Manager Chris Craig. “We knew that with their history of academic excellence that it would be a great partnership. Their feedback has been extremely helpful in developing new content for our site.” Now on the second round of testing, the school has received annual licenses for its own STEM Academy classes, including technology literacy as well as multimedia and creative technologies. “Tech Rocket’s curriculum is a perfect complement to our STEM academy,” said Dr. Colby Boysen, Vice Principal for Academics. “Our students have been given exclusive access to try these courses as they’re developed. We are looking forward to offering our students tech learning through Tech Rocket.” For more information, please contact Alison Dirstine, Director of Marketing & Public Relations at BellarmineJefferson High School, at (818) 972-1408 or adirstine@bell-jeff.net. -MORE- Bellarmine-Jefferson High School is a Catholic, archdiocesan, co-educational, four-year, secondary school providing a balanced college preparatory program and serving a diverse student population from the San Fernando Valley and surrounding area.
