Primary Responsibilities Develop and implement packaging for optical components for shipment from suppliers, shipment to customers and transit within the company. The packaging must conform to cleanroom requirements and prevent oxidization, degradation and damage. Examples of the optical components are uncoated and coated wafers, lenses, prisms, filters, filter wheels and optical assemblies made of glass, fused silica, silicon, germanium, sapphire, calcium fluoride and filter glass. Other packaging for large rolls of thin film and pigment containers may be needed. Must be able to specify and implement proper testing for cleanliness, vibration, shock, transit and environmental conditions. Familiarity with RCA methods of wafer cleaning and implementation at vendors Understanding cleaning methods for all forms of glass substrates, prisms and optical components External packaging of wafers for internal and external shipment to prevent surface damage, contamination, or defects To interface with customers to ensure CFM meets JDSU requirements Knowledge of Semi-Conductor Industry standards and requirements for wafer packaging, shipment and environmental/shock test Design and development of packaging solutions for wafers and substrates Must be familiar with QMS (Quality Management Systems), ISO 9001 and AS9100. Must be able to perform, create and implement the following for optical components: o Supplier communication, development, qualification, audits, first articles, questions and improvement for suppliers globally. o Incoming inspection instructions, training, questions and issues. o Non-conforming material, MRB, dispositions, communication and corrective and preventive actions. o Communication, problem identification and resolution, and team activities with Purchasing, Quality Engineering, Engineering, R&D, Purchasing, Production and customers. o Review of new RFQs, quotes, sales orders and item specifications regarding proper specifications and supplier’s capabilities. o Various reports including quarterly supplier quality reports, supplier scorecards, requalification and nonconforming material. Required Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Proficient in standard business office software. Fluency with Oracle EBS, Related Quality & WMS systems Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills Excellent oral and written communication skills Fluency in written and verbal English Proven ability to think independently and handle multiple projects through to completion Record of successfully collaborating with and influencing senior management and peers Demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff Demonstrated independent work initiative, sound judgment, diplomacy, analytical ability and professional demeanor Able to make effective presentations to diverse groups Able to perform financial calculations and create and manage budgets Travel within the U.S and to Japan, China and Malaysia may be required. U.S. citizenship or ITAR approval is required. Education and Experience Four year college degree preferred. Prefer emphasis in Packaging Business Management, Operations Management or Logistics. o BA/BS preferred. o Dangerous Goods handling certification. o DoD Security clearance or able to pass security clearance. o Behavior based safety training a strong plus. o This person must also have excellent written and oral communication skills and previous experience in conflict resolution and supervising employees. o The optical packaging materials engineer must have the ability to work well unsupervised and be self-motivated. Must be able to work as part of a team and be able to organize team activities. This person should have excellent organizational skills, previous budget-planning and reconciling skills, and the ability to problem-solve and implement solutions. 5+ years in optical, wafer level packaging and handling operations
