Please read the following before continuing… If you are selected Missouri Western State University’s Homecoming Royalty 2014 you will be REQUIRED to attend all Homecoming activities and appearances (see schedule below), fully complete and submit this Homecoming Nominee Application, have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative Grade Point Average and honorably represent Missouri Western. When you arrive at each event you must sign in and out with Alexis Spiegel upon arrival, to be awarded participation points. Royalty Petition If you are an Independent Nominee (no sponsoring organization), you must fill out this application and obtain 20 signatures from students at Missouri Western who support your nomination. If you fall under this category and selected to be on the Royalty Court then YOU are responsible for publicity for campaigning purposes. You will adhere to all rules and guidelines expected by every candidate. If you make it onto Royalty Court and are voted Homecoming King or Queen/Runner-Up, no points will be awarded to any organization. Royalty Candidates a. Guidelines 1. All royalty nominees must be full time Missouri Western students with a 2.5 cumulative GPA 2. Royalty nominees must have submitted to BLUM 217 (SGA SUITE) on September 26, 2014 by 4pm. 3. ALL nominees MUST be interviewed by the designated judges during the allotted time. If you are unable to attend, you will no longer be considered for Homecoming Court. 4. Interview-appropriate attire should be worn during interviews. This process will bring the number of candidates down to 5 female and 5 male candidates. 5. If an organization nominee succeeds in becoming a member of the Homecoming Court, the organization is responsible for campaign publicity on behalf of their nominee. 6. Independent Nominees, not sponsored by an organization, may nominate themselves for Homecoming Court with 20 signature petition. Independent nominees are responsible for their own campaign publicity. b. Mandatory Candidate Meetings and Events 1. Royalty Candidate Info Night on October 3, 2014 at 4:30 PM in TBA. 2. A photography session, will take place during the Info Night mention above. Candidates are asked to dress their best. 3. Intro videotaping, on October 8, 2014 in TBA at 4PM, to film a video introducing each candidate to the students of Missouri Western. 4. There are 8 mandatory events that a candidates must attend. All of the events will have seating reserved for the Homecoming Court. 5. Homecoming King and Queen will additionally attend the Awards Reception, date and time TBA. MWSU Homecoming 2014 Page 7 6. Candidates who are unable to attend any of these events must notify the Royalty Director, Alexis Spiegel at 816-510-8961, before 3 hours before the homecoming event each week. Unexcused absences will NOT be tolerated and will result in disqualification. 7. Candidates must wear Homecoming Court sashes during homecoming events throughout the week. a. b. c. d. VIII. Campaigning Campaigning is defined as any action taken to solicit votes Announcements of candidacy will be made in The Griffon News, along with information from your application. Please make sure all information is correct and appropriate. Campaigning may begin October 20, 2014 at 8AM. Campaign publicity are allowed: 1. One poster or banner placed in each building, one per bulletin board, in areas designated by West Campus and Residential Life regulations. 2. Flyers 3. T-shirts and buttons worn by sponsoring organizations and their members 4. Posters brought by sponsoring organizations to homecoming week events 5. All publicity should be in good spirit of Homecoming and Missouri Western State University. 6. All publicity has to be approved by the Center for Student Engagement. 7. Election Process Homecoming elections will be online for two consecutive days beginning Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 8 AM and ending on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 11:59 PM. King and Queen will be determined by 50% majority vote of the student body, 25% on participation in Homecoming events with proper attire worn and 25% academic excellence (GPA) and will be collected by a means of an online ballot. Only registered MWSU students may vote for candidates. Students are only allowed to vote one time for their first choice of Homecoming King and Queen. Links to voting can be found on the Missouri Western homepage and on the SGA homepage. X. Royalty Homecoming Competition Points a. Sponsoring organizations will receive 5 point for each nomination who makes it onto Homecoming Court, one female and one male nominee, for a total possible of 10 points. b. Sponsoring Organizations will be awarded 5 points for each event their nominee attends. c. 20 points will be awarded to the sponsoring organization of the King and Queen winners.
