Project: Energy Resources Your Task

Project:
Energy Resources
Your Task:



You will be provided with a scenario related to energy resources. The class will split into two groups
of opposite viewpoints and create a campaign to encourage your peers to vote for your position
Example: In November, Proposal 3 was a ballot initiative that would have made it part of
Michigan’s constitution to increase the use of renewable energy in our state. According to
the Michigan Campaign Finance Network, Proposal 3 supporters like the League of
Conservation Voters, the American Wind Energy Association and the Green Tech Action Fund
contributed over $10 million to the group Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs to get the
amendment passed. The Clean Affordable Renewable Energy (CARE) committee raised more
than $23 million from DTE Energy, Consumers Energy and Wolverine Electric to oppose it. In
this scenario one committee could represent the Michigan Energy, Michigan Jobs Coalition
(supporting Proposal 3) and the other committee would represent The Clean Affordable
Renewable Energy (CARE) Committee (Opposing Proposal 3).
Your campaign will be divided into an executive committee (determined by your teacher) as well as a
commercial committee, a print and social media committee and a debate committee.
You will carry out your campaign over the course of three weeks to attempt to get your peers to vote
for your position. The voting will take place via Google apps on December 18th and 19th.
Final Products to be created:



A campaign commercial (1-2) minutes in length
A print and social media campaign including, but not limited to posters, pamphlets, flyers, e-mails,
tweets, etc.
A debate with representatives from the opposite viewpoint
