We are pleased to continue these investments by inviting applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position in World Language Education and Second Language Acquisition in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the Neag School of Education at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in August 2015. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses in methods of second language acquisition, including foreign language instruction that includes a field-based practicum sequence; conduct research and scholarly activities in areas of expertise; advise students at all levels; contribute expertise to teacher education program planning; serve on university committees; work in collaboration with public school partners; and provide service to professional organizations. The primary teaching assignments will be undergraduate and graduate courses on the methods of teaching foreign languages, K – 12, as well as courses assisting teacher candidates learn to differentiate instruction for all language learners. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; demonstrate through their research, teaching, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; and integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research. Qualifications: Minimum qualifications: An earned doctorate in a relevant field (e.g., foreign language acquisition, bilingual education, teacher education, second language acquisition) with a completion date prior to faculty appointment (August 23, 2015). Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable. Evidence of scholarly achievement or potential for an active research agenda including peerreviewed publications, professional presentations and grants (external funding). Several years of experience teaching language(s) in K-12 school settings. Demonstrated potential for preparing world language teachers. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in a language other than English. Experiences in culturally and linguistically complex settings. Experiences teaching at undergraduate and/or graduate levels. Experience and/or research in emergent bilingualism. Evidence of involvement with externally funded research projects. Experience providing professional development to practicing teachers. Experience supervising student teachers of world languages. Appointment Terms: This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2015. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus with the possibility of assignment to one of UConn’s regional campuses.
