Product Description. The product that we are offering is a canvas handbag. The aforementioned canvas handbag will be sewn from over-due light pole banners. The materials used for the fabrication of light pole banners are canvas materials and as such, they will be resistant to most weather conditions. This would allow for our product to endure the wear and tear of modern day lifestyles. 57.75 inches in length 23.5 inches in width Figure 1.0 Figure 1.0 illustrates the standard size of a typical display banner. We plan to use such banners and of larger sizes to create shopping bags. We have and are currently in the process of extending our networking in the various administrations that are involved in the removal and disposal of light pole banners. Currently, we have liaisons with someone who could provide us with the banners that we need. This is by way of saying that we are committed to making these canvas bags a success. We plan to use thick thread (materials vary) to firmly sew in place the hinges that conjoin the canvas bag. For aesthetics, we plan to air-spray over the bag in an artistic manner. Patterns would vary based on the various kinds of banners that we utilize. The finished product will be distributed and sold to selected shopping outlets. The canvas bag will function as a shopping bag for customers to reduce and ultimately replace the usage of plastic bags. Also, it serves as an efficient way of disposing overdue banners and banners that are polluting the general aesthetics of beautiful Malaysia. We do have samples of the bags and would be more than willing to display them at the due date. Product Inspiration. The inspiration of our project came from our passion for a cleaner future. We strongly believe in the need to have more projects that can help reduce waste and pollution. Our towns are littered with old banners and it is ruining the aesthetics. We want to solve the issue by creating opportunities for all parties. A more comprehensive plan will be written to explain the notion further. We are inspired in the notion that this canvas bag is a stepping stone for more promising work from us in the future. The bag that we present is the really recycled “recycle bag.” We are currently refining our sample products for a later exhibition. Most of the artworks that we will depict on the bags will be nature themed because we need to remind ourselves why we carry the bag. Later editions are yet to be disclosed, for now; we will carry on with the nature theme. SWOT OF the Product Strehgths Weaknesses innovative solution for reducing pollution. New and relevant idea for encouraging reuse of discarded items. Simple and effective way of reusing canvas materials. Has potential for varrying product developements. easily copied. New marketshare hard to change preception of public to use recycled items. SWOT Analysis. Opportunities Stepping stone for creating a recycle oriented society. A way of spreading eco-friendly culture among users. Relatively new idea in Malaysia, lack of same product competition. Threats Changing market trends. Economic uncerainty. Political barriers. ie; taking banners from lightpoles in towns and districts. Banner Bags vs. Reusable shopping bags. Reusable shopping bags. Reusable shopping bags are a kind of carrier bag, which are available for sale in supermarkets and apparel shops. Some reusable bags have been found to contain high amounts of lead. Moreover, they require more energy to produce than common plastic shopping bags. One reusable bag requires the same amount of energy as an estimated 28 traditional plastic shopping bags or eight paper bags. "If used once per week, four or five reusable bags will replace 520 plastic bags a year", according to Nick Sterling, research director at Natural Capitalism Solutions. A study commissioned by the United Kingdom Environment Agency in 2005 but never published found that the average cotton bag is used only 51 times before being thrown away. In some cases reusable bags need to be used over 100 times before they’re better for the environment than single-use plastic bags. Most of today’s reusable shopping bags are made of 100% Non-woven Polypropylene (NWPP) which is recyclable but not biodegradable. Some companies claim to be making NWPP bags from recycled material, however with current manufacturing techniques this is not possible. All NWPP bags are made from virgin material. Banner Bags. Our banner bags are made from reused polypropylene and vinyl banners. The materials are stronger and more resistant to the environment and rough use. While these materials are not recyclable, they are however reusable. The energy needed to convert a banner into a bag is much less comparatively speaking. We only need to cut it apart and stitch it together. The added advantage to this is that when our banner bags get torn, it can be sent back to us for further reuse. The potential in this is that stitching expertise can be found readily and inexpensively. At the same time, it can also be delegated to social help programs that pay the poverty stricken and unfortunate for their work. In this way, we can help both the environment and society by reusing canvas materials and also providing job opportunities for the less fortunate. Moreover, our product can be customized to fit specific orders. Because the materials are such, we can spray over the inks and create different patterns to enhance aesthetics. This could give our product a competitive edge when pit against conventional reusable shopping bags and even conventional bags. The design of our product
