Axminster Town Cricket Club
Colts Protocol 2015
This proposal has been drafted by Axminster Town Cricket Club and should be read in conjunction with the following:
 ECB Guidelines on Supervising Children at Cricket Sessions
 ECB Anti-bullying policy
 ECB Guidance for Staff and Volunteers working with children
 ECB Guidance on Managing Children away from the Club
Given the continuing popularity of ATCC’s Friday evening coaching sessions the club has decided to make some changes to its
colts coaching structure. This is to ensure that each child can receive the maximum amount of coaching possible that is
appropriate to their level of ability.
Thursday evenings
It is proposed that a group of 6 children from each age group be invited to attend a 1 hour session on Thursday evenings. These
sessions will be a 2 to 1 session, which basically means there will be a UKCC2 coach to every two children. This session will be
delivered by an Axminster coach of at least a UKCC2 qualification (assisted by an Axminster coach who has a UKCC1
qualification).
The cost of these sessions will be £5 per child.
The initial groups will be chosen by the coaches but there will be ample opportunity for children not initially selected to
compete for and merit inclusion in the Thursday group. There would be no compulsion, if chosen, to attend the Thursday
session but the club sees this as a valuable opportunity for young players to receive high quality coaching and develop their
skills at a reasonable cost. These sessions will start on Thursday 4th June 2015.
Friday evenings – Boys & Girls (5-15 year olds)
Friday evenings will be run much along the lines of recent years although the coaches will be looking to divide the larger groups
according to ability.
To encourage these changes in emphasis and to maintain the efficient running of the sessions, the club has adopted the
following policies:
 All sessions will be payable at £4.00/session, payable strictly before session starts. Unless you have paid the £40 block
payment up front! NO PAYMENT, NO TRAINING!
 Registration will open at 6.15pm and sessions will commence at 6.30pm until 8.00pm
 All children taking part must be registered and the coaches will check prior to the session taking place, by checking
your child has been stamped by our registration team
 A child will only be permitted to use a hardball if, in the opinion of the coaches it is appropriate!
 All boys must wear box pants and boxes to bat (No Boxer Shorts)
 No under 11 child should arrive more than 15 minutes before the scheduled start of the session and their registration
should be accompanied by a responsible adult
 By signing this protocol, parents acknowledge their responsibility to collect their child(ren) promptly at the end of the
session (8pm)
Match Days and Team Selection





All efforts will be made to ensure that every child that wants to play will be encouraged to play in friendly matches
Team selection will be at the discretion of the coaches and manager. Whilst every effort will be made to include as
many children as possible in competitive games it has proved counter-productive to ask some children to face
opposition teams of markedly different ability.
Parents/Guardians must inform age group managers their child(s) availability for matches as soon as possible.
Match fees have been set at £4 a home game and £2 an away game, per child.
MATCH DAY PAYMENT: IF YOU DO NOT PAY YOUR MATCH FEE PRIOR TO THE START OF THE MATCH, YOUR CHILD
WILL BE UNABLE TO PLAY ANY FUTURE MATCHES UNTIL PAYMENT IS RECEIVED, AND SO WILL NOT BE SELECTED
FOR MATCHES. ‘NO PAY, NO PLAY’! MANAGER’S ARE NOT THERE TO CHASE UP PARENTS FOR PAYMENTS, THEY ARE
THERE TO COACH AND DEVELOP THEIR AGE GROUP SIDE!
Photographs
Photography of children at the ground, whether by video, camera or mobile phone, during training will not be allowed!
Permission will be requested on an individual basis from parents for photos to be taken of competition winners, pictures for
the club’s website (www.axminstertowncricketclub.co.uk), local newspaper articles or for training purposes.
