Approved Incidental Fees and Charges for 2015
FACULTY: Science
Incidental fees and charges incurred by students are governed by the Higher Education Support Act and implemented at the University in accordance with
the UWA Policy for Incidental Student Fees and Charges. :
General Principles
Commonwealth supported students and domestic-fee paying students generally must be able to complete the requirements of their course of study
without the imposition of fees that are additional to student contribution amounts or tuition fees except in the following circumstances:
 NE: Non-Essential; “For a good or services that are not essential to the course of study”

AF: Alternative Forms; “For alternative forms of access to a good or service that is an
essential component of the course of study, but is otherwise made readily available at no additional charge by the University”

FP: Fine or Penalty; “The fee is a fine or penalty, provided it is imposed principally as a disincentive and not in order to raise revenue or cover
administrative costs”

TP: Third Party; “For a service imposed and charged by a third party (for example: first aid certificates, criminal record checks or immunisation
costs”

EG (a), (b), (c) or (d ): Essential Goods, “For an essential good or service that the student has the choice of acquiring from a supplier other than the
University and is for:
(a) equipment or items that become the physical property of the student and that are not consumed during the course of study and have some
value in use after graduation; or
(b) food and accommodation costs associated with the provision of field trips in Western Australia that are outside the metropolitan area that form
part of the study; or
(c) food, travel and accommodation costs associated with the provision of field trips that are within the metropolitan area, interstate or overseas;
or
(d) food, travel and accommodation costs associated with study abroad
In addition to the fees listed above it is expected that students will incur additional costs for day to day items which are considered consumable i.e., items that
students would normally use as part of study; pens/paper etc.
 C: Consumable
