Ronald Reagan
Ronald Reagan, one of the best Presidents of the United States, was known for his
conservative republican side and his appealing personal style. President Ronald Reagan was
the only movie actor ever to become president of the U.S. He accomplished so much during his
presidency. Reagan cared about the United States but he felt that freedom was fading away.
In one of Reagan’s quotes he says, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from
extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for,
protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years
telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where
men were free." (GoodReads.com, Page 1).
Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois. Ronald’s family was
always in poverty. His family was also dealing with their fathers drinking problems, which made
it hard for all of them. Later on Ronald went to Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois. He played
gridiron football and played roles in the drama society. He graduated in 1932 with a bachelor’s
degree in Economics and Sociology but later on when he got older he decided to enter the
business of broadcasting. He was a sportscaster at the station WOC in Davenport, Iowa. Ronald

became very popular throughout the state for his broadcasting. In 1937 he successfully
became an actor for Warner Brothers. He appeared in no more than 50 films such as: All
American (1940), Kings Row (1942), and The Hasty Heart (1950). Soon after his acting career he
was assigned to the army during World War II. When the War was finished he later became
Governor for California in 1966.
The election of 1980, Reagan dominated the republican primary elections. His strongest
opponent was George Bush. During his first days as president he announced that Iran had
agreed to release the remaining American hostages on October 1980. Reagan was involved in
Domestic Policies. A recession in 1982 raised unemployment rate to 11%. Bankruptcies and
farm foreclosures reached their record levels. People thought blamed him for this;
consequently, this wasn’t his fault. Reagan had also cute the budgets of government
departments and he ignored the enforcement laws administrated but the Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA). In Congress Reagan was the first to appoint a female the Supreme
Court, her name was Sandra Day O’Connor. Ronald Reagan had relations with the Soviet Union.
He questioned the legitimacy of the Soviet Union Government. In Florida Reagan had a very
memorable speech, in this speech he denounced the Soviet Union as “an evil empire”
(Biography.com, Page 5) and “the focus of evil in the modern world”.(Biography.com, page 5).
Ronald Reagan retired to his home in Los Angeles. He wrote his autobiography “An
American Life” (1990). In 1994 Reagan wrote a letter to the American people saying that he
had been diagnosed with Alzheimer Disease, a degenerative brain disorder. Reagan’s health

problems made his public appearances difficult for him. Ronald Ragan still had millions of fans
and political admirers. He died June 5, 2004 in Los Angeles, California.
Ronald Reagan-the 40 president of the United States-was one of the greatest presidents
this country has ever seen. Just knowing what he did is amazing, he accomplished so much for
this country and a lot of people looked up to him. He will always be remembered for what he
did for his country.
