Appreciating the Marvels of God’s Creation God’s Creation an Appropriate Subject Why is this creation an important topic for our consideration? 1. Evolution a widespread teaching – Schoolbooks and even popular magazines advocate evolution as a fact, as a result many reject belief in God .The psalmist describes the moral breakdown that is a result of such an attitude: “The senseless one has said in his heart there is no Jehovah. They have acted ruinously, they have acted detestably in their dealing. There is no one doing good.” (Psalm 14:1) They openly embrace ungodly principles and discount a personal God to whom they have no wish to be accountable. 2. Creation reveals Jehovah qualities – Read Ps 19:1 - Without speech, without words, without voice, Jehovah’s awesome created heavens declare his glory, day after day, night after night. Creation never ceases to declare God’s glory. What aspects of creation show evidence of an Intelligent Creator? An Intelligent Creator The universe abounds with galaxies of awesome size and energy. A galaxy is a vast group of stars, gas and other material rotating around a central nucleus. Galaxies have been called island universes, for each one of them is in itself like a universe. For example, consider the galaxy we live in, which is called the Milky Way. Our solar system, that is the sun and the earth and other planets with their moons, is part of this galaxy. But it is only a very tiny part, for our Milky Way galaxy contains over 100 billion stars! Some scientists estimate at least 200 to 400 billion. The diameter of our galaxy spans so vast a distance that if you could travel as fast as the speed of light (186,282 miles a second) it would take you 100,000 years to cross it! How many miles is that? Well, since light travels about six trillion (6,000,000,000,000) miles in a year, multiply that by 100,000 and you have the answer: our Milky Way galaxy is about 600 quadrillion (600,000,000,000,000,000) miles in diameter! It is almost impossible for the human mind to comprehend such size and distance. Some astronomers estimate that there are 100 billion galaxies in the universe! And each galaxy may contain hundreds of billions of stars! Yet, there is more. These awesome galaxies are not scattered haphazardly in space. Instead, they are usually arranged in definite groups called clusters, like grapes in a bunch. Thousands of these galactic clusters already have been observed and photographed. Some clusters contain relatively few galaxies. Other galactic clusters are made up of many dozens, perhaps hundreds or even thousands, of galaxies. One such cluster is thought to contain about 10,000 galaxies! The distance between galaxies within a cluster may average about a million light-years. However, the distance from one galactic cluster to another may be a hundred times that. And there is even evidence that the clusters themselves are arranged in “super clusters,” like bunches of grapes on a vine. What colossal size and brilliant organization! Indeed, the universe is so precisely organized that man can use the heavenly bodies as the basis for his timekeeping. But any well-designed timepiece obviously is the product of an orderly mind that has the ability to design. An orderly mind that designs can be possessed only by an intelligent person. Then what about the far more complex design and dependability that exists throughout the universe? Organization results from an Organizer. Also, the entire universe, from atoms to galaxies, is governed by definite physical laws. There are laws for governing heat, light, sound and gravity. Rocket expert Wernher von Braun went a step further when he stated: “The natural laws of the universe are so precise that we have no difficulty building a spaceship to fly to the moon and can time the flight with the precision of a fraction of a second. These laws must have been set by somebody.” When we think of laws, we acknowledge that they came from a lawmaking entity. Such brilliantly conceived laws surely bear witness to a supremely intelligent lawmaker. Our home planet made just for life. It is a rare and beautiful jewel in space. It’s the only planet where life is found. It is the right distance away from the sun not top far resulting in bitter cold, not to close resulting in scorching heat. That speed is just right to offset the gravitational pull of the sun and keep the earth at the proper distance. If that speed were decreased, the earth would be pulled toward the sun. In time, Earth could become a scorched wasteland like Mercury, the planet closest to the sun. However, if Earth’s orbital speed were increased, it would move farther away from the sun and could become an icy waste like Pluto, the planet whose orbit reaches farthest from the sun. It also has beneficial seasons, vital water and atmosphere and soils that produce food. We see the unmistakable stamp of thoughtful, intelligent, deliberate design everywhere. The Bible comes to grips with questions that evolutionary theory has not clearly addressed. Instead of leaving us in the dark as to what is behind the origin of all things, the Bible tells us the answer simply and understandably. It confirms the observations of science, as well as our own, that nothing comes into existence by itself –Read Heb 3:4 An intelligent creator exists should we not be moved to learn about him, his qualities and what his will for us is? What can we learn about Jehovah from creation? Jehovah’s Qualities seen in Creation Jehovah’s principal attributes are seen in his works. Let us look at the first of these attributes recorded at – Read Jer 10:12 – Power. How is Jehovah’s power manifest in creation? Jehovah’s power is apparent in fusion power of stars and our sun, which pour out heat and light because of his dynamic energy. Take our sun for example its core temperature is some 15,000,000 degrees Celsius. Each second, this thermonuclear furnace transforms some four million tons of mass into energy. Just a fraction of it reaches earth as heat and light, but that amount sustains all life here. No doubt we can agree with the Book of Isaiah which states of the creator “due the abundance of [the Creator’s] dynamic energy, he also being vigorous in power.” The second attribute manifest in creation – Read Deut 32:4 – Justice. How is justice seen in Jehovah’s creation? For example most humans are born with a sense of justice; this can even be seen in little children e.g. children’s games. This sense of justice can be also seen in other creation e.g. Bee gets nectar from flower in turn pollinating a flower. Another attribute of Jehovah we see in creation – Read Prov 2:6 – Wisdom. Seen in how creatures are made instinctively wise. Think of the Arctic Terns birds. Nesting north of the Arctic Circle, at summer’s end they fly south to spend the Antarctic summer on the pack ice near the South Pole. They may circle the entire continent of Antarctica before heading north to return to the Arctic. They thus complete an annual migration of about 22,000 miles. Rich food sources are available at both Polar Regions, so one scientist raises the question: “How did they ever discover that such sources existed so far apart?” No doubt this shows evidence of a wise and intelligent creator that implanted such instinct. Our final attribute – 1 John 4:8 – Love. We can discern Jehovah’s love in the instincts seen in animals and birds in rearing and protecting their young. The bird sits on their nests for weeks and when their young hatch, both male and female, tirelessly work to feed them. Lessons from Creation In ants Solomon saw a lesson of industriousness – Prov 6:6 - Go to the ant, you lazy one; see its ways and become wise. Like the ant, should we not also be industrious? Working hard and striving to improve in our work is good for us whether we are being monitored or not. Yes, in school, at our place of employment, and while sharing in spiritual activities, we should do our best. As the ant benefits from its industriousness, so God wants us to ‘see good for all our hard work.’ Read Mt 6:26-30 - Jesus assures us that if we keep material needs in proper perspective and give spiritual things priority, God will make sure that we also have the necessary food and clothing. If Jehovah God cares for the birds and the flowers, he will surely care for those who love him and ‘keep on seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness. 1 Cor 12:12-18 -The human body provides a lesson on Christian unity. Paul used the human body to illustrate the unity of the Christian congregation. He stressed interdependency and the importance of each member. Similarly, not all of us in the family of Jehovah’s worshipers perform the same function. Yet, we are united, and we need one another. Do you Show Appreciation for Jehovah’s Creation? We need to show our appreciation for all Jehovah has created. Jehovah’s purpose for creating the earth and all the abundant creation around and in it was for man to live in it, care for it and enjoy it and more importantly to appreciatively praise him for it. If the heavens without speech, voice or words praise him, how much more so should we those who have tongues and powers of speech. Jehovah has provided lower creatures with instinctive wisdom to guide them however he has given us his word the Bible as a primary guide for us. Read Deut 30:19, 20 - We can show our appreciation by using our God given free will to live by God’s requirements from his word. If we do so we have the privilege of living eternally enjoying the marvels of God’s creation.
