THE
JOURNEY
SO FAR
2013-2015
Unfold Foundation “The Journey so far”
FROM THE DESK OF THE CHAIRPERSON:
Dr. Neeta Dhabhai
Chairperson Unfold Foundation
India is one of the youngest nations in
the world for the next 20 years. This
demographic scenario brings with it
huge opportunity for our country in the
form of the largest working population. The future work
force is currently passing through adolescence, a very
critical age for development. According to a UNICEF
report, India is home to around 20% of global adolescent
population.
It is also a challenge to develop these
adolescents into healthy educated/skilled individuals
who can be instrumental in the growth of the nation
Unfold Foundation was conceptualized to take up the
cause of preventive interventions in adolescent health
by very passionate and highly experienced professionals
including doctors, psychologists and educators in
October 2013 to address this need. The foundation along
with partner organizations has conducted and
supported numerous activities in creating awareness
about physical, mental and sexual health and recorded
visible improvement amongst beneficiaries in the last two
years.
We at Unfold Foundation are on mission to bring about a
substantial change in the mind set towards preventive
adolescent healthcare for a better nation.

ACTIVITIES TO EDUCATE AND ENLIGHTEN
1. Hand Washing: Hand washing is simple daily
activity that can help in drastic reduction of
infectious and other disease. According to
research hand washing can reduce
gastrointestinal disease by about 80% and
respiratory illnesses by 60%. Hence called a
"do-it-yourself" vaccine. Why, how, when
and with what are some of the areas
covered under the hand washing activities.
Unfold
foundation
promotes
and
encourages this activity by identifying also
identifying hand wash champions and hand
wash coaches amongst the participants
themselves. This instils pride and responsibility
in
children
and better
propagation
especially amongst the slum dwellers.
Numerous hand washing activities have

been successfully completed in Faridabad,
Agra and Jaipur in the past two years
covering around 250 children. The target is to
reach 500 children the year 2015.
2. Adolescent Health: Adolescence is period of
biological vulnerability where, mental maturity
does not keep pace with the fast physical
changes taking place in the body. This leads
to challenging behavioral patterns amongst
teenagers in this transitional phase of life.
These patterns influence the food they eat,
the company they keep, their activities and
habits. Adolescents can be easily affected by
their surroundings including family, peers,
school, and neighborhood. Both boys and girls
need as much attention in these vulnerable
years to shape a healthy and productive
society.
