The city's theme is: “Geared for fun!” Which includes "Geared for Speed!" (home of Corvette Plant & Museum); "Geared for Natural Wonders!" (Mammoth Cave & other area caves); "Geared for History!" (Riverview, Kentucky Museum); "Geared for Collectables!" (antique shops); and now, “Geared for Flow Blue!” We hope you enjoy the 2015 convention. FlowBlueInter (group code: FBI) Registration Room – Salon A (Hotel) Hosted by Ray and Jan Schomas Wednesday, July 22nd Thursday, July 23rd Friday July 24th 3:00-8:00 pm 7:00 am–8:00 pm 7:00 am–5:00 pm 3 Thursday Events July 23, 2015 “Gearing Up” for a tour of Bowling Green 8:15 am - 4:00 pm Chairpersons- Katrina Franklin, Ken and Alecia Brock, Jim and Betty Nicks. Email inquiries to katfrank80@att.net (404-376-4612) Tour Cost: $46.00/person (includes admission to 3 venues, LUNCH and bus transportation) First Gear: A visit to the National Corvette Museum (NCM). You don’t have to be a car enthusiast to enjoy the beautiful Corvettes, but if you are, you’ll be thrilled. Who doesn’t love the Corvette - a truly American invention? The 115,000 sq. ft. museum has more than 70 Corvette models, a concept car, plus the history of the Corvette, articles, thousands of pictures and articles about owners that have donated their collections to the museum, and yes, the evidence of the sinkhole which should be repaired by time we visit. But there are victims left to see. Watch a short video, then have your picture taken behind the wheel of a classic car. A wonderful gift shop for souvenirs is available. Everyone will have a good time here! (Admission is included in the cost of the tour.) One thing to note, Bowling Green is home to the only Corvette plant, so all those Corvettes you pass on the highways come from right across the street. 2nd Gear: “Riverview” at Hobson Grove – A short drive through Bowling Green brings us to Riverview, one of Kentucky’s finest examples of Italianate architecture. The restored house was home to Atwood and Juliet van Meter Hobson. Construction was begun in 1857, but was halted due to Civil War. The house was completed in 1872 and became the centerpiece of a 400 acre horse and cattle farm. 4 Its name was due to the proximity to the Barren River. The Victorian decorations reflect the period of 1860-1890. There are many unique architectural features and “green” innovations for the period. Most historical information is provided in the guided tour. (Admission is included in the cost of the tour.) 3rd Gear: “Taste the Kentucky South” is the motto of Federal Grove, an historic home that is now a Bed & Breakfast and Restaurant. Originally part of a 10,000 acre parcel of land awarded to Gen. Jonathan Clark (brother of William Clark of the Lewis & Clark Expedition) in 1785, this restored home of wonderful food is also home to a wonderful collection of Flow Blue. Imagine our surprise upon entering and the Flow Blue "oh’s" and "ah’s" that came next. Only a short bus ride south, Federal Grove features a lunch of fried chicken, two sides, rolls and drink. (Included in the cost of the tour.) Dessert is on your own, if you choose to indulge! You can come back and spend the night if time you have an extra day. But eat up, as we’re on to the next to last stop on the tour. 4th Gear: South Union Shaker Village Established in 1807, this Shaker Village is a living-history museum. The Shaker community closed in 1922 and now the restored village is home to beautiful shaker furnishings, woven blankets, pottery and other items representing a simpler time. Shakers were known for their simplicity and useful furniture which left a big impression on the future. Their handicrafts are delicate, durable and necessary for everyday life. A video starts you off and then you can tour the buildings on your own. (Admission is included in the cost of the tour.) Cruise back to the hotel after a full day of facts, fellowship, food and fun 5 Dinner Wednesday and Thursday For those of you who arrive on Wednesday or Thursday for the convention, dinner those two nights is on your own. There is a large variety of fast food and sit-down restaurants located in close proximity to our hotel. “Geared for More Fun and Food” Ice Cream and Social Hour (Salon B & Plaza Deck B) Hosted by Clara Bowen and daughters Thursday, July 24, 2015 - 7:00 pm–9:00 pm This is the time designed for us to relax, make new friends and renew old friendships. After you turn in your auction items, join the crowd for cake and ice cream. Then make your own group or join one and meet others for bridge, board games, card games, Mexican dominos, etc. “Geared to Learn” First-Timers Meeting - (Salon C) Hotel Presented by Judy Boyer Sponsor Liaisons - Judy and Paul Boles Thursday, July 23, 2015, 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm Right after your cake and ice cream, come next door for this superb orientation program. If 2015 is your first FBICC convention, then you’ll want to attend and learn about reproductions, patterns, potters, buying and selling, eBay and much more. This year it’s also open to all attendees, so if you missed originally or just want a recap of vital information, please join the group. Judy’s presentation is excellent! The convention agenda and club organization will also be discussed. This is a great opportunity to get acquainted with other newcomers and learn the basics of flow blue and mulberry collecting. Handouts will be distributed. All First Timers will be offered a sponsor for the weekend. This person or couple will introduce you to other members and help make you feel welcome. 6 Pattern Identification Project Helen Swan, Education Committee Chair Thursday, July 23, 6:00 pm-8:00 pm, Ballroom C, Sloan Convention Center The FBICC Education Committee Pattern Identification Project will continue taking photographs on Thursday evening. Please indicate on the registration form if you will bring plates and also provide Helen Swan with a list of your plate patterns. Please email the list to jim.helen.swan@gmail.com or 785-2184662.
