Position Title: Surgical Services –Inventory Supply/Central Sterile tech

JOB SUMMARY: The Inventory Supply/Central Sterile tech is a professional who assists the surgical team, and must be able to anticipate the needs of the unit. The primary job responsibility is to maintain supplies/instruments on hand for upcoming surgical procedures. The technician must have knowledge of sterile technique and be able to follow and maintain strict sterile technique guidelines. The tech is also responsible for reconciling patient charges, ordering, maintaining inventory on hand and anticipate upcoming needs in advance. The inventory supply/central sterile technician works under the supervision of the charge nurse and central sterile coordinator of the unit.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Knowledge of the current electronic medical record for billing and ordering purposes recommended
Knowledge of surgical instrumentation and equipment highly preferred
Sterile conscious required
Knowledge of surgical supplies
Current BLS or within 6 months of hire
RELATIONSHIPS: Reports to the Director of Surgical Services. Also reports clinically to the unit charge nurse in collaboration with the central sterile coordinator.
