For Seniors:

Tulip planting day is 11/10 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Five hundred (yes, 500)
lovely purple and white tulips – one for roughly every Sunset senior -- have been
purchased by the grad party committee. Seniors are invited to eat a quick lunch and
then come join us at the front of the school to plant tulip bulbs. When the tulips bloom in
the spring, we’ll know that graduation is close.

Senior picture submissions are due on or before 11/13. Seniors can submit their
own senior photo for the yearbook. Submission guidelines and instructions can be found
here: http://thesunsetscroll.com/category/yearbookinformation/.

Jostens graduation orders now being accepted. Jostens packets have been
provided to seniors and are available in the main office. Orders can be turned in on
11/18 during lunch. All students participating in the graduation ceremony on 6/8/2016
will need a cap and gown which can be ordered through Jostens for $35.25 (plus $11.95
handling). Scholarship help is available through the counseling office. Jostens offers
many other graduation items as well and orders must be placed by 12/4 to guarantee
current pricing. Items ordered through Jostens will be delivered in April.

Get your Grad Party ticket! We are currently booking buses for what will be a fun and
inclusive party. Purchasing your ticket now ensures that there will be a seat on the bus
for your graduate. Plus all ticketholders are automatically a part of all future ticket
purchase incentives. Grad party tickets are now $80 and scholarships are available
through your student’s counselor. The ticket order form and waivers can be found here:
https://sites.google.com/a/beaverton.k12.or.us/shsgradnight/.

Graduation requirement -- CIS work due by 1/15/16. If your senior wants the chance
to have 8th period free second semester, and have one more item off the list for
graduation, they need to complete the Senior CIS assignment by the end of the first
semester at the latest. The assignment can be found here:
https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/schools/sunset/academics/Pages/Senior-CIS.aspx.
This assignment should take no more than two hours and is part of the Career Education
curriculum required for graduation. Students should contact Mrs. Lucas in the College &
Career Center with any questions.
For all Apollos:

Juniors and Seniors – internship/job shadow applications due 11/3. The Hillsboro
Chamber of Commerce has room for 50 Sunset seniors to participate in 15-hour
internships in the field of their choice. The College & Career Center says that their
placement rate is 90-95%! The Chamber also has access to job shadow opportunities
for juniors. An application and resume are required for both. Look here for more
information: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/schools/sunset/academics/collegecareers/Pages/default.aspx.

College visits at Sunset. A few more college representatives are coming to Sunset in
November and are included on the calendar below. A list, along with links to other post


Partial and Full-day Absences Reminder: The procedures are different for partial
and full-day absences. Your cooperation really helps the attendance office efficiently
keep track of students. If your student will be gone for part of the school day (either
arriving late or departing early for an excused absence), do not call the school. Your
student must bring a written note to the attendance office. If your student will miss the
entire day of school, call the 24-hour attendance hotline directly at 503 259-5095 by 2:30
p.m. and follow the instructions. For complete details on Sunset’s attendance
procedures, look here: https://www.beaverton.k12.or.us/schools/sunset/forparents/Pages/attendance.aspx.

The Counseling office is here to help:
1) Any student who is in need of financial support to take the SAT or ACT should see
their counselor for information about fee waiver support.
2) Students in need of scholarship support for formal dances (Bali, Prom) are
encouraged to talk to their counselor about scholarships.
3) As the weather gets colder and school vacations approach, please know that there is
community resource information available in the counseling office.
