Dear UW Class of 2018, Congratulations on your decision to attend the University of Washington this fall and the upcoming success that you will find there. As you will soon know firsthand, the college experience is one that will provide you with countless opportunities to develop professionally, expand your networks, and better yourself through many different avenues and outlets. As this is undoubtedly an exciting time for you, it is an equally exciting time for the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, for we are crossing a new horizon at the University of Washington, as well. We have received full support from the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to begin our recruitment effort to reestablish our historic chapter on your campus. Together we are offering an opportunity known throughout the fraternal world to provide one of the most coveted experiences available to any undergraduate: becoming a Founding Father of a Fraternity Chapter. Kappa Sigma was originally founded in the year 1400 in Bologna, Italy, and then founded in America at the University of Virginia in 1869. It now stands at over 290,000 initiates and is the largest collegiate fraternity in the world with over 18,000 current undergraduate members. We are founded on four pillars: Fellowship, Scholarship, Leadership and Service, recognizing that each of these is as important as the other in the process of building strength, character, and determination. Here are a few highlights of Kappa Sigma’s success over the last two years: more than 1,200,000 hours volunteered for community and national organizations, more than $3.1 million donated to charity and more than 19,000 new pledges recruited. All of these are Greek Life records. The opportunity to become a Founding Father is a once in a lifetime proposition. Not only will you be helping to restore a chapter with over 100 years of history and Alumni, you will be able to leave your own unique mark on the University of Washington. You will be able to build this organization along with your fellow Founding Fathers, while deciding everything from your chapter traditions to what types of social events you want to put on as a group. We are concentrating our best resources to return Kappa Sigma to UW, and are looking for Leaders, Scholars, and Athletes to establish a standard of excellence. During the next few months we will be taking new members who do not just fit a standard, but set one. If this is an opportunity that you think you might want to take advantage of, I would like to speak with you. Please contact me for more information, or visit www.kappasigma.org/Washington for additional details. Throughout one’s life there are many opportunities to leave a mark, but very few have the opportunity to leave a legacy. We look forward to speaking with you soon.
