Okay… this is going to be fun! You are going to read a mystery (for example: Cam Jansen, The Boxcar Children or
A-Z Mysteries) and make a haunted house to tell about the story you read. You will present your haunted house
to the class! Please remember the model that I showed you in class to help you make your own haunted house
book report.
Directions to make a haunted house book report
You will need:
-Three pieces of construction paper (two pieces can be your choice of color that is not black and the other piece
is black)
-Scissors
-Two Templates (included in the directions) (If you would like to make your template bigger, feel free too)
-Glue Sticks, markers, pencil, or crayons
-Decorations
The Mysterious Procedure…
Book Choice:
1. Pick your mystery book at the school library or at home
2. Get approval of the mystery book by your parents and your teacher (see attachment for parent
signature)
3. Let the mystery reading begin 
Using the GIVEN template:
1. Cut out the template pieces. Trace them onto colored construction paper.
Using construction paper:
1. Using the traced on construction paper cut around the chimney, house, and roof.
2. Cut the 3 windows and 1 door, but leave one side attached so it can open and close (ask an adult for help
if needed)
3. Glue white piece of paper (computer or construction paper) to the back of the template pieces. Please DO
NOT glue the door and windows shut. (This will be where you write your book report).
4. Attach all pieces to the black piece of construction paper.
5. Glue all the other pieces (ghost and pumpkins) to the black construction paper around your house.
Now you will be opening the roof window, house window, and the house door to write your book report
inside. That is why you need the white paper so we can see their beautiful writing.
Writing the book report:
1. Inside the roof window write the names of the main characters.
2. Write where the story takes place inside one of the house windows.
3. Write what they mystery or problem is inside the other house window.
4. Write how the mystery or problem was solved inside the door.
5. Add the title and author of the book anywhere on the house.
Your grade will be based on following the directions above, neatness, and writing in complete sentences even when
just listing the characters. Don’t forget to write your name on the back of the haunted house. Let me know if you
have any questions.
