Policy
Policy: Re-accreditation of Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) CME Activities
Purpose and Scope: To establish a policy for regular review and confirmation of the CME
Essentials for Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) CME activities.
Intended Application: The GHS CME Program accredits Regularly Schedule Series (RSS) CME
activities that are produced by academic departments with GHS. In order to maintain
accreditation for the CME Program all activities accredited by the GHS CME Committee must
meet and document certain requirements as directed by the CME Program’s accrediting body.
In order to maintain timely and accurate documentation of these requirements it is imperative
that the CME Essentials, as established by the SCMA and ACCME, are met for Regularly
Scheduled Series (RSS) CME activities. This policy establishes a three year review and approval
cycle for all RSS CME activities. A regular review of RSS CME activities allows the planners and
the CME program to ensure that all CME Essentials are being met and document this process.
Exclusions: None
Related GHS Policy: S-110-7 Continuing Medical Education
Effective Date: March 14, 2013
Revision Date: None
Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) CME activities include topic-based activities, such as grand
rounds, and case-based, such as M&M’s, Journal Clubs, and Tumor Boards.
Each RSS CME activity is accredited through an application process made by a physician medical
director.
All RSS CME activities will be placed on a three-year cycle for re-accreditation by the GHS CME
Committee.

The Medical Director for each activity will be required to submit an application every three
years for each RSSS CME activity.
The application is due to be reviewed and approved at the CME Committee meeting three years
from the month in which it was approved. For example, If the application is approved at the
May CME Committee meeting, the application for re-accreditation is due to be reviewed at the
May CME Committee meeting three years from then. The CME Committee meets on a set date
of odd numbered months, i.e. January, March, May, etc.
All applications for CME activities must be received for review no less than three weeks prior to
the announced CME Committee meeting.
The GHS Program will provide a reminder notice no less than six months prior to the end of the
current three-year accreditation cycle.
All RSS CME activities will be placed on a rolling schedule based on the month the original
accreditation by the CME Committee was made. Each RSS CME activity will be placed on a
schedule with the first and subsequent re-accreditation periods being that of no less than three
years. The CME Committee may elect to spread the rolling re-accreditation schedule as it
determines is necessary for administrative reasons.
If application for re-accreditation is not made, accreditation for that RSS CME activity will end at
the end of the three-year cycle.
