It is my goal that each and every student will be able to:
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
Use appropriate tools strategically.
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Reason abstractly and quantitatively
Model with mathematics.
Attend to precision.
Look for and make use of structure.
Course Description:
Precalculus provides students an honors-level study of trigonometry, advanced functions, analytic geometry,
and data analysis in preparation for calculus. Applications and modeling are included throughout the course of
study. Appropriate technology, from manipulatives to calculators and application software, will be used
regularly for instruction and assessment. (2003 NCSCOS)

Expectations
- Come to class on time
- Raise your hand
- Follow dress code policy
- Be respectful to your teachers, peers & property
Consequences
- Be prepared with supplies and homework
- Use language that is appropriate for school
- Follow electronics policy
- Stay seated during instruction
All students have the right to a safe, comfortable, and effective learning environment free from disruptions.
Failure to meet expectations will result in a warning. Failure to correct the behavior will result in a
private discussion with me, as well as a phone call home. If the problem persists, a referral will be
written and further action will be taken by an administrator.
*In the event of a serious offense you will be asked to see an administrator immediately.
Homework Policy– homework is the key to success in mathematics. It is important to spend time outside
of class reviewing the material. Homework Sets will be assigned weekly and collected ON FRIDAYS. It is
recommended that you do a few problems each night and come in with questions on specific problems
before the assignment is due.
*Your lowest homework grade will be dropped at the end of the semester!
Warm Ups & Participation – Students will be expected to begin the warm up when the bell rings and
participate in all classroom discussions and activities. Failure to participate will lead to deductions from
your class work grade. Refusal to participate in group activities & class discussions will also affect your
grade.
Projects/Assignments – throughout the semester you will be assessed on your learning in ways other
than tests. This may be a project or an assignment. At Biotech we expect quality work from all of our
students. If you turn in work that is not of high quality you will be asked to re-do the assignment.
Tests – because tests count as 50% of your grade, it is important that you spend time preparing for them.
If you do not master all or part of the material the first time, you will be allowed to re-take the test or a
section of the test after reviewing the material in after school tutoring.
Make-Up Work – it is your responsibility to get the information you missed if you are out. Notes, videos,
homework, and resources will be posted on my website so there is no excuse for missing out! Time
extensions will be given as needed if absences are excused.
After School – I am available Tuesdays & Thursdays after school for you to ask questions and make up
tests. After school tutoring is NOT for students who choose not to participate in class or do not do
homework. Meetings and other obligations may come up periodically so please check to make sure
tutoring has not been canceled. If you are having trouble in class, do not wait until the last minute to
ask for help!
Progress reports will be sent home AT LEAST ONCE every quarter. If you are not
receiving these progress reports, please ask your son/daughter or contact me.
Please feel free to contact me anytime by e-mail or phone.
