School Mission: Baseline Elementary School is a child centered environment promoting lifelong
learning by emphasizing academic achievement through a challenging, developmentally
appropriate curriculum, utilizing technology, fostering self-discipline and character education
while nurturing diversity in a cooperative relationship between school and community.

Baseline is currently a Priority and Title 1 school for grades Kindergarten through 5th grades,
with 96% of students receiving free and reduced lunch.

COMMUNICATION: Baseline will communicate with parents in the following ways to
increase parental involvement and to support classroom instruction:
 Each teacher sends home a communication folder and planner with student notes,
homework, and daily log to be signed by parent and returned.
 Baseline provides 5 week interim reports/nine week report cards with information
regarding students’ academic and social progress.
 Baseline distributes weekly newsletters, in English and Spanish, to parents developed
with participation of the PTA, principal, staff and parent volunteers. It includes school
news, classroom progress and updates, calendar of events and parenting tips related to

 Teachers contact parents on an individual basis to communicate about their child’s
progress. Jennifer Gonzalez interprets for Spanish-speaking parents.
 The school sends flyers and posts notices in school facilities to provide information about

 Baseline School uses the student handbook and parent orientation meetings (held
September 4, 2014) to familiarize parents with the School Wide Title 1 Plan and how to

BUILDING STAFF AND PARENT CAPACITY: Baseline School will plan the
following meetings to increase parental involvement and build staff and parent capacity:

Conduct a series of family reading, math, technology and science nights that provide
opportunities for parents and children to experience the school settings positively while

Teachers hold two conferences per year in which parents are given a summary of their
child’s test scores, assessments and an explanation of the intervention(s) used to assist the
student in academic achievement.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Baseline will provide information to parents
about volunteer opportunities:
 Baseline School provides opportunities for parents and community members to support
the instructional program through programs such as tutors, Reading to a class, Parent

 The school will provide a list of volunteer opportunities and solicit ideas for other types
of volunteer efforts during Open House, explaining the requirements to parents and

The school and counselor, in a joint effort with southwest schools in the Little Rock
School District, helps provide a smooth transition from one school to the next by raising

PARENT-TEACHER COMPACTS: Baseline School will work with parents to
update School-Parent-Teacher Compact:
 Baseline school staff, parents and students developed a school-parent-student compact
that outlines how all parties share the responsibility for improving student academic
achievement and the means by which the school and parents build and develop a
partnership to help children achieve the state’s high academic standards. All stakeholders

EVALUATE ACSIP/ANNUAL TITLE 1 MEETINGS: Baseline School will
provide opportunities for parents to be involved in the development, implementation and
evaluation of the school wide school improvement plan, and the Annual Title 1 meeting to
engage them in the decision-making processes regarding the school’s Title 1, Part A
program:
 The school enables the formation and installation of a Parent/Teacher Association that
will foster parental and community involvement within the school. (Contact Betty

 The school engages parents in decision making regarding the allocation of its Title 1, Part

 The school will ask parents to serve on curricular, instructional and school climate review
committees and offer training on contributing to this process in a meaningful way.

PARENT RESOURCES: Baseline School will provide resources for parents:

The school has a Parent Center located in the front of the building. Open from 8 a.m. to

The school encourages parents to check out books in the Parent Center. Parents may use the
computer to check student progress on Edline and visit educational websites. Parents can
check out student packets in the Parent Center as well as view the Title 1 Plan located in the
Parent Center. Packets are available for check out daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Contact

The school distributes informational packets each year that includes a copy of the school’s
parental involvement plan, survey for volunteer interests, recommended roles for
parents/teachers/students (compacts), parental involvement activities planned for the current
school year and information about the system that will be used to allow parents and teachers
to communicate (notes, phone calls, e-mails, etc.). Packets are distributes during registration.

 The school purchases parenting books, magazines and other informative materials
regarding responsible parenting, giving parents opportunities to borrow the materials for

 The school includes the school’s policy handbook in its process for resolving parental
concerns, including how to define a problem, whom to contact first, and how to develop
solutions.
ANNUAL EVALUATION OF PI PLAN: Baseline School will engage parents in the
evaluation of its parental involvement efforts:
 The school engages parents in the annual evaluation of the Title 1, Part A program’s
parental involvement efforts through an annual needs evaluation completed by school
staff, parents and teachers. The survey collects specific information about the (1) growth
in number of parents participating in workshops and meetings; (2) specific needs of
parents; (3) effectiveness of specific strategies; and (4) engagement of parents in

PARENT INTEREST SURVEYS: Baseline will use the parent interest surveys to
select, plan and implement parental involvement activities that will be offered throughout
the year:
 The school uses parent survey results to plan parental involvement activities for the year.

ANNUAL TITLE 1 MEETING: Baseline School will plan the Annual Title 1 meeting:
 The school conducts an Annual Title 1 meeting for parents of the students who
participate in the Title 1, Part A Program.
 The school holds their annual Title 1 meeting at the beginning of each school year
separate from other meetings and/or activities with an agenda, sign-in sheet and the
minutes for this meeting are on file in the school’s office and/or in parent facilitator’s
