Bankstown South Infants School We Care Find us at: Stacey Street, Bankstown NSW 2200 T: 9790-6176 F: 9790-0427 Email: bankstowsi-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au August 13th 2015 Term 3 - Week 5– Issue 4 Attendance at School Environmental Education Excursion. Attendance at school is compulsory and whilst the majority of our students exhibit excellent attendance we must all be diligent in our duties as parents to ensure students attend school regularly. This year we have experienced a greater than usual number of students arriving late to school. If your child is late to school on 3 separate occasions I will be contacting parents to seek a solution to this problem. We also require students to bring a note explaining their absence on the day they return to school. These notes are kept and filed with the class roll each year and can be subpoenaed to court if an ongoing attendance issue arises later in a child’s school career. If the child does not bring a note explaining their absence, this is marked as an unexplained absence and is referred to the Department’s Home School Liaison Officer. We are aiming to improve our lateness to school issue and I would ask all families to assist us by ensuring your child is at school on time every day. All the students enjoyed the excursion. Lots of great learning took place and Year 1 and Year 2 received a Certificate which is displayed in the school Office. Photos are attached at the end of the newsletter. Mrs Bedwell. Relieving Principal Please collect your stickers at Woolworths and attach them to the card that was sent home to assist our school to purchase resources through this program. More cards are available in the office or you can get them through your local store. When the form is full, please place it in the box at the office or in the box with the school’s name on it at Woolworths Bankstown Centro. Education Week and Open Week Our Education Week Celebrations were wonderful. It was fantastic to see so many families attending and showing their ongoing support for the students in all classes, Preschool and Early Intervention. Mr Cox provided the parents with a fantastic workshop on Healthy Eating. There will be some photos featured at the end of the newsletter. (Preschool/Early Intervention- Yr2). Change In Staffing Congratulations to Mrs Katie Teale on her permanent appointment to Guise Public School. Judy Chan will replace Katie on Early Intervention, commencing Monday, 17 August. (Preschool / Early Intervention- Yr2). Earn and Learn CUA Community Care School Grant Program 2015. We are trying to win a Grant to assist us in gaining funding for a “Hall”. As we are a small school we rely on our community to support us. The vote closes on 24.8.2015. Please see the attached information and Vote. Jeans for Genes Day. Thank you to all families who wore their Jeans and contributed generously to this worthwhile fundraiser. We raised $158.00. (Photos at the end of the newsletter) Student of the Month Student Safety We are focusing very consistently on Student Safety at present. The staff and I are talking to the students regularly about staying “inside the yellow lines” that are clearly marked on the asphalt playground. Parking is not allowed in the school grounds at any time as we only have sufficient space for staff and deliveries. I realise parking is difficult and minimal in Stacey Street. However, space is also available in Lancaster Street, Homedale Avenue and Boxley Crescent so please make use of these areas. I would also ask parents to leave space outside the shop “Bumbalinas” as they require that space for their customers. I would also ask all parents and students to enter and leave the school grounds through the small gate and NOT the Carpark Gate. This is for the safety of all students and younger brothers and sisters who are with you. It would also be appreciated if the small gate could be opened and shut by each family as they come and go so that younger siblings cannot run out of the gate and onto the road. Our student’s safety is our combined responsibility and our highest priority so please adhere to these requests. Mrs Bedwell Relieving Principal Principal (Preschool / Early Intervention- Yr2).
