Posting RESEARCH ASSOCIATE Position Title: Part-time Research Associate Hiring Unit: Department of Physiology Supervisor: Dr. Ursula Stochaj Work Location: McIntyre Building room 1115 Hours/Week & Schedule: 15 hours/week- Mon/Wed/Fri (9h00 – 14h00) Hourly Wage: $24.19 Planned Start Date & End Date: Start date: 01 June 2015 possibility of extension Date of Posting: 13 May 2015 Deadline to Apply: 20 May 2015 End date: 31 May 2017 with PRIMARY DUTIES The Research Associate will work on a project that addresses the biology of the nucleus under different physiological conditions. The project focuses on the development and use of nanosensors to interrogate changes in cell physiology. The successful candidate will: - Conceive, design and introduce innovative experimental approaches related to nanosensors, establish and improve protocols for the development of nanosensors; - Coordinate experiments, collect, analyze and interpret data derived from experiments; discuss findings with colleagues and collaborators; - Prepare progress reports - Attend journal club - Write scientific part of grant applications - Prepare first draft of manuscript to be published in high impact factor peer-review journal - Present findings at scientific meetings - Mentor and supervise lab personnel: undergraduate and graduate students as well as Postdoctoral Fellows - Lead all aspects and ensure its movement toward completion of the project; Develop his/her own ideas toward an independent research position EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE PhD degree in Physiology or Pharmacology and at least five (5) years of research experience. OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS & ABILITIES Strong expertise in morphology and biochemistry of cellular organelles; background in nanotechnology; cell culture; quantitative microscopy; image analysis; knowledge and application of imaging software .
