MRS. SCHMIDT’S NEWSBITS FEBRUARY 13, 2012 Last Week in First Grade: We studied long vowel e sounds, /ea/ and /ee/. We learned how to skip count with a number line. We also learned a great deal about our teeth and were treated to a special presentation from Dr. Dermody’s office about their care. This Week in First Grade: We will be reading the Flat Stanley books in preparation for our play on Friday and our reading will revolve around that. However, we will also review the previously learned vowel skills of long o and long e. Our homework this week is a little different in that our spelling test will be on Thursday and our tic-tac-toe sheet will be substituted with a Rainbow Words and Contraction Worksheet. In math we will finish Chapter 8 and our focus for Social Studies will be Presidents Lincoln and Washington. Valentine’s Day: We will keep this very low-key! I have two moms who have offered to bring snacks in for that day. Before Micro, we will exchange Valentine’s and we will decorate our bags to keep them in. I have included a class list of names for the exchange. My reasoning in keeping this simple is we have our field trip on Friday along with Jump Rope for Heart and I would like to keep the week “flowing” as much as possible before our day off next Monday. Thanks for understanding. Flat Stanley Field Trip: I have one more spot for a chaperone if anyone else would like to go that hasn’t already signed up. You need to have a current volunteer form completed at the office before going. Please let me know if you are interested. Also, we will eat our lunch at school after the play, around 12:15. BUT, PLEASE PACK A LUNCH FOR YOUR CHILD AS WE WILL NOT BE EATING FROM THE CAFETERIA THAT DAY.
