Proof in the Blood Ronald Reagan once stated, “We’re told about a woman’s right to control her own body. But doesn’t the unborn child have a higher right, and that is to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?” Reagan makes a prodigious point that coincides directly with my views concerning abortion. My personal beliefs regarding abortion and the reasons why I am pro-life are founded upon both Biblical principles as well as scientific proofs. I believe that both God and science align on the side of life. In today’s society, I believe America is unwittingly having two unrelated debates when it comes to this issue of life and death. Supporters of abortion assert their justification in the form of “women’s rights”, whereas those who declare they have pro-life values guard the “sanctity of life”. In order to win the battle for the unborn, defenders of life must vigilantly continue their fight, but must also bring the pro-choice community into the same conversation. Those who espouse the validity of abortion claim that the child, especially in the earliest — stages, is not a life; and therefore, find it permissible to discard this “fetal tissue”. This rabid stance of those who cling to a woman’s “right to choose” blinds them from even considering whether or not a life exists in the womb. They refuse to acknowledge that “life comes from life” as the famed scientist, Louis Pasteur, proved in his biogenesis experiment in the 1860’s. Today, because of 21st century science and technology, we comprehend even more concerning the life- affirming activity transpiring in the womb. Scientists and doctors understand that the child has a separate heartbeat, blood type, and blood flow from the mother. According to Dr. M.R. DeHann, “From the time of conception to the time of birth of the infant not one single drop of blood ever passes from mother to child.” This scientific proof, coupled with my belief system, drives my pro-life position. Endorsers of abortion continue to ignore or twist both of these aspects in an attempt to obtain support for their argumentation. Those who combat to defend life must proficiently persuade these and others that both God and Science point to life. Preserving life from conception to death is a crucial obligation of upright citizens. For as Thomas Jefferson expressed, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for good people of good conscience to remain silent." Tyranny has already "taken foothold" through Roe vs. Wade, and the time has come for all pro-life citizens to get off the sidelines, stop playing defense, and illustrate through corroborated evidence that life exists in the womb. The proof is in the blood. Works Cited: DeHaan, M.R., M.D. The Chemistry of the Blood. Grand Rapids: Zondervan Publishing House, 1943
