Kindergarten: Commence Preparation for Annual Christmas Ornaments and “12 Days of Christmas” Program LEQ: What are the Christmas colors? What is a color pattern? The Christmas ornament will consist of a patterned finger printed candy cane. Students will utilize red and white paint on green pre-cut construction paper to simulate a candy cane. I will attach a bow after they have dried. We will also attach ribbon at the top so they can be hung on the tree. Time permitting we will attach a poem to the back and have laminated for preservation. Length of lesson will be one to two art sessions. Thereafter we will begin the 12 days of Christmas decorations for the local elderly facilities. First Grade: Begin Annual Christmas Ornament and Preparation for the “12 Days of Christmas Program” LEQ: What is foreground/background? How can we create shades of green? Students will utilize triangles and rectangles (representational of Christmas trees) in freehand style to draw a landscape with pencil. I will demonstrate and it must consist of 3-5 trees of varying sizes. Students will be certain to incorporate a ground line (likely for snow) and prior to painting will outline with black Sharpie. We will discuss the family of greens or hues. Scene will be painted to experience the varying degrees of green. The length of lesson will vary 2-3 art sessions. Upon completion of assignment we can attach as a scene and may be used for the 12 days of Christmas for local facilities. ***** Last week we altered gears with 2-4th as we prepared for Veteran’s Day The plans below were “on hold” as students helped prepare for the Veteran’s Day Assembly. The handful from each group that haven’t finished will take the time needed to do so this week and then turned in for lamination. They will be cut out and again some held onto for the Art show while the rest are returned to take home for Thanksgiving break. Third Grade: Continuation of the Color Wheel- Painting LEQ: What are the Primary Colors? How can they be mixed to acquire the Secondary Colors? What are the warm/cool colors? Third grade sections that have completed the primary and secondary color exercise and have moved to the warm/cool painting and the guidelines required. The warm and cool colors exercise consists of sketching subject onto a 9 x 12” page and then using the warm for the foreground and cool for the background areas (or vice versa). They must be easily identifiable and consistent. Upon completion students will be able to distinguish their subject via warm color group and cool color group. Upon drying students will use black Sharpie to outline initial pencil lines and give definition to painting. Time permitting some groups may be ready to commence the color opposites referencing the color wheel. Some will be held onto for purpose of SLO documentation and a handful for the art show while the rest may be taken home. (Warm and cool colors associated with warm/cool subjects: yellow like the sun, orange like fire, red like red tabasco sauce, etc… Fourth Grade: Complete Foreshortening/Introduce Kiln Fired Clay for Christmas Lesson: Most students are finished with their foreshortening assignment. Those who are not due to field trips, and or conferences will need to try and conclude this week. LEQ: What is the process of Kneading clay? What are air pockets? Some final products will be on display in the hallway, some kept for the art show, and some may be taken home to enjoy. Those who have finished completely will begin a new assignment. Until most students are caught up we will begin contour line assignment. Sample references will be displayed and upon completing sketches students may outline, and then implement painting via color wheel concept (either monochromatic or random- student’s choice).
