Version: 03/21/12 DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHIATRY (DOP), RESEARCH DIVISION Request for Approval to Apply for Research Division Resources &/or Extramural Evaluation/Research Funding Purposes: To provide a process of evaluating requests for DoP resources and pursuing external evaluation-related or research funding, and to weigh all relevant factors in the decision-making process. Policy: All research grant/contract proposals must be approved by the DoP, which will take into account such factors as consistency with the Department’s mission, probability of funding, infrastructure support needed, and compliance with regulatory requirements. This policy is also applicable to non-funded research projects that will entail resources from the DoP. Not following through on the procedures of this policy may cause a delay in the processing of the proposal, including possibly not meeting the deadline. Procedures: Notify the Research Council (RC) on your intent to apply for DoP &/or extramural/external resources. [Note: If an immediate funding opportunity arises and is very time-sensitive, please contact one of the Research Council members ASAP.] 1. Members: Earl Hishinuma (RC Chair; hishinumae@dop.hawaii.edu), Naleen Andrade, Deborah Goebert, Jane Onoye 2. Meetings: Standing meetings are held monthly or on an “as-needed” basis Either: 1. Complete the form to follow, and submit it to a Research Council member either in hardcopy or via e-mail attachment. 2. Attend a Research Council meeting in-person to discuss the questions/topics below; please be prepared to address each item. Subsequently, in consultation with the other Associate Chairs when appropriate, a recommendation by the Research Council will be made to the Chair of the DoP for a decision. Once approved, John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Office of Research Services (ORS-UH), and UH policies must also be followed. This includes using the UH’s myGRANT online system that requires time (e.g., 1-2 weeks) for review, modification, and processing. 1 Version: 03/21/12 Please complete the date, principal investigator, title, deadline, and Applicant’s Response Column. For the latter, brief/short responses are expected. Submit the completed form to one of the Research Council members &/or attend one of the Research Council’s meetings to discuss each of the questions. The Research Council will review the application and inform the applicant of their decision.
