Los Angeles Mission College Curriculum Committee Program Narrative AA-T Program Title: Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer Item 1. Statement of Program Goals and Objectives: The Associate in Arts Degree in Psychology for Transfer is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a similar major at a CSU. Students completing this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. This degree will provide the student with a strong, basic foundation in the social sciences. Upon completion, students will be able to: 1. Complete a variety of course offerings to graduate with an AA degree or transfer to universities. 2. Demonstrate critical thinking skills necessary to assess real world issues and the various perspectives on them. 3. Demonstrate effective communication skills by reading primary and secondary source material, discussing course content, and writing one or more papers. 4. Apply the diverse assumptions and values that shape our experiences and or/attitudes of the world. Item 2. Catalog Description The Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer prepares students to transfer into the CSU system. Students completing the Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer will receive a strong, basic foundation in core areas of the discipline. Students interested in transferring and/or completing an Associate in Arts in Psychology for Transfer degree should meet with a counselor to determine the coursework necessary to complete the requirements for general education and for the major. To complete the degree, students must fulfill the following requirements: (1) Completion of 60 CSU transferable semester units to include the following: A. General Education requirements as identified on the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General Education-Breadth, and B. A minimum of 18-19 semester units within the major or area of emphasis, as determined by the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees. A grade of “C” (grade of 2.0) or better is required in all courses necessary for the major or area of emphasis. (2) A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
