Los Angeles Mission College Curriculum Committee Program Narrative AA-T Program Title: Associate in Arts with emphasis or concentration in Art History for Transfer Item 1. Statement of Program Goals and Objectives This curriculum is designed for students intending to transfer to a California State University as a Studio Art major with emphasis or concentration in Art History. Students in the Associate in Arts with emphasis or concentration in Art History for Transfer are introduced to the discipline of art history as it is organized by geography, culture and chronology. Students acquire the necessary skills in critical analysis and historical research through applying: visual analysis and art historical terminology; a vocabulary of basic stylistic terms; stylistic movements within larger philosophical, political, religious and cultural contexts; methodologies of art history. Students completing this degree are guaranteed admission to the CSU system, but not to a particular campus or major. Program Learning Outcomes: 1. Use discipline specific terminology in oral and written communication. 2. Demonstrate aesthetic responsiveness by taking a position on and communicating the merits of specific works of art and how those works of art reflect human values within historical, cultural, political and philosophical contexts. 3. Apply the elements of art and principles of design with competent skill and technique with art media. Item 2. Catalog Description Students completing this associate degree will have completed lower-division major preparation requirements for a studio arts degree, an emphasis or concentration in art history considered similar to a studio arts program at a participating California State University (CSU) campus. Students who complete this degree may enter with junior status to the California State University system, and will be given priority admission to the CSU system. To complete the degree, students must fulfill the following Associate Degree for Transfer requirements. (1) Completion of 60 CSU transferable semester units to include the following: A. General Education requirements as identified on the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) or the California State University General EducationBreadth, and B. A minimum of 18 semester units within the major or area of emphasis, as determined by the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees. A grade of “C” (grade of 2.0) or better is required in all courses necessary for the major or area of emphasis. (2) A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0.
