V&A/UAL/Alexander McQueen Fashion Drawing Competition A Competition for UAL students in participating colleges, celebrating the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the V&A and recognising the continuing influence of Alexander McQueen on current and future fashion creatives and professionals. Creative Brief To make a drawing inspired by an Alexander McQueen collection, moment or a specific outfit. Considerations 4-6 drawings will be selected and reproduced as open edition colour prints, either A3 or A4 in size. These prints will be sold exclusively in the V&A Shop and the V&A Shop online. The successful images will make appealing prints whether framed or unframed, hung in a domestic or other setting. The print will be produced as a high quality giclée print on a 300gsm premium mould-made paper manufactured at a UK paper mill. A credit line will be included on the print giving the students name and details of the project. The print will retail in the shop for £20-£25. Eligibility The competition is open to current undergraduate students from across participating colleges at UAL- namely Central Saint Martins, Chelsea, London College of Communication and London College of Fashion from any undergraduate course. Submissions One drawing to be submitted per entrant. The drawing should be a newly created work using any hand or digital drawing materials or tools. Drawing to be supplied as a .jpg at 300dpi to fit A3 paper size. (Please retain the original artwork or an uncompressed digital file for production purposes if you are selected as a winner.) Please name the file: SURNAME_COLLEGE. For shortlisting purposes please include the following information in the artwork file. 1. Your full name 2. Your e-mail address 3. Your college and the course you are studying and your year. 4. A title for the drawing 5. Name & date of the Alexander McQueen collection it is inspired by. Prize Monetary: The winning students will receive a fee of £250, for this fee the artist will exclusively license the V&A the rights to create a print of their drawing to sell in the V&A Shops, in association with the Alexander McQueen exhibition, during the licence period as defined in the Student Agreement. Professional exposure: every submitted entry will be seen by V&A Curatorial and Commercial teams, the shortlisted images by Alexander McQueen creative and commercial teams. Public exposure: To have your work reproduced and sold at the V&A in association with the Alexander McQueen exhibition. The prints will be clearly labelled with information about the artist / designer, giving an excellent opportunity for your work to reach a wide and varied audience. The prints will be promoted within the V&A’s marketing plans for the SS2015 season. Extra: In addition to the above the winners will each receive x2 final production prints, x2 tickets to the exhibition and a hard cover copy of the publication. Judging Process: A shortlist will be drawn up from the submissions within the V&A commercial and curatorial teams and then a final selection will be made by Claire Wilcox, Senior Curator of the Department of Furniture, Textiles and Fashion at the V&A and Professor in Fashion Curation, London College of Fashion, UAL.
