PRESS RELEASE Physio network launched to boost treatment outcomes A national physiotherapy network aimed at insurers, solicitors, employers and occupational health professionals has been launched to maximise clinical outcomes for injured parties. Clinics across the UK have been selected by Health & Case Management Limited (HCML) to form the new Innotrex network, mostly to treat those with acute back or general musculoskeletal problems. It aims to deliver robust clinical governance through a close and transparent relationship with its partner clinics – which will include prompt payment of invoices and access to member benefits such as CPD. Operating independently from HCML’s case management activity to ensure impartiality, the network has access to leading experts in rehabilitation who have advised on its formation. An evidence-based approach is being used to provide injured parties with strong clinical outcomes without over-treating them, to maximise value and achieve optimal case closure durations. The service will adopt innovative technology to provide real-time communication with partnering clinics and allow online booking of appointments to enable quicker decisionmaking and manage claimants’ journey and recovery more effectively. HCML claims Innotrex physiotherapists will be the first to systematically use the orchard code injury classification to measure recovery progress and outcomes against diagnosis and prognosis. The network will adopt a geographical pricing model, meaning referring customers pay an appropriate price dependent on their location. Keith Bushnell, chief executive officer for HCML said: “Our vision is to provide clinical excellence without over-medicalising the claimant’s journey. Case managers will remain totally independent so programmes are appropriately managed.” He added that providing value is a key goal: “We know the overall cost of a programme is determined not only by the sessional rate but also the number of sessions required to achieve a successful outcome. “PMI referrals would normally require four to five treatment sessions, which is half the typical number from GP referrals. Through better-managed care we will offer better service and outcomes to the claimant, speed up recovery and help deliver real value for rehabilitation spends.” The launch marks a watershed for HCML which has posted its maiden annual profit in 2011/12, driven by a 20 per cent increase in fee revenue. Bushnell said a focus on innovation and delivering value-based solutions has been behind the firm’s recent success: “This company has always been focused around clinical rigour, but our recent attention has been on giving a great service and improved outcomes to the injured party to match that. “To achieve this we’ve better aligned ourselves with our customers’ objectives, invested in IT infrastructure and made greater use of our first rate medical advisory board. “We’ve recruited 24 new case managers since March 2012 to service increased volumes of Immediate medical assessment (IMA) work for musculoskeletal injuries and we are seeing continuing growth in 2012/13. “IMA volumes doubled to more than 19,000 cases in 2012 compared to 2011.” For more information visit hcml.co.uk. ENDS March 2013 About Innotrex Case managers will have direct access to clinics’ calendars to make instant bookings, and claimants will have fewer people to deal with and fewer hand-offs, which HCML says will noticeably improve the claimant’s experience.. With the help of HCML’s world-leading Medical Advisory Board, clinics are rigorously analysed before being recruited to the network. A pre-screening questionnaire assesses clinics on criteria including clinical governance, service delivery, accessibility and location. HCML’s clinical relationship manager audits each clinic to further examine clinical standards and governance, and will be responsible for managing the ongoing partnership between HCML and its therapists. HCML was advised on its therapist recruitment process by the Medical Advisory Board’s Dr. Nick Kendall - a trained clinical psychologist focusing on orthopaedics and musculoskeletal medicine, evidence-based clinical practice, excellence in case management and vocational rehabilitation. HCML’s Medical Advisory Board also includes Professor Sir Mansel Aylward, exchief medical advisor to the Department of Work and Pensions; Professor Kim Burton, director of the Spinal Research Unit at the University of Huddersfield; Dr. Nick Summerton who has held senior advisory roles to the DoH and NICE; and Mr. Marcus Timlin, a consultant and specialist spine surgeon.
