College Procedures Manual 4 - Personnel 4.1 - Appointments / Hiring 4.1.8 Foreign Guest Speakers & Lecturers Preamble: A.1 The employment of foreign guest speakers and lecturers shall be governed by the following procedures. Definitions: B.1 A foreign guest speaker is defined as a person who is not a Canadian citizen nor permanent resident of Canada and who is invited/employed to speak at a single function such as a dinner, graduation or convention where his/her participation is limited to presenting an address relating to his/her area of expertise. B.2 A foreign guest lecturer is defined as a person who is not a Canadian citizen nor permanent resident of Canada and who is invited/employed to present or lead a series of workshops, seminars or lectures which do not comprise a complete academic course and for a period of less than one term or semester. Procedures: C.1 A manager planning to invite/employ either a foreign guest speaker or a foreign guest lecturer shall, at least one month in advance of the scheduled commencement of the invitation/employment, provide the Personnel Manager with the full name and address of the prospective invitee/employee, and the full details of the planned invitation/ employment. C.2 The Director, Human Resource Development shall be responsible for securing the necessary approval from Employment and Immigration Canada, and notifying and instructing the recruiting manager or Campus Manager and the prospective invitee/employee on the matter.
