News from the Guidance Center

Visit the Guidance and Counseling website for valuable information and important links.

A hearty and warm welcome to everyone! We hope this new school year will be a great one for all of you!

We are pleased to welcome Mr. Terrell Rodgers, a CHS class of 2007 alum, to our Counseling and Guidance Department. He will be joining Mrs. Di Loreto and Mr. Isbrandt in working with 9 th and 10 th grade students.

New alphabetical breakdown:

Class of 2019 (9th grade) and Class of 2018 (10 th grade)

A-F: Mr. Isbrandt

G-M: Mr. Rodgers

N-Z: Mrs. Di Loreto

Class of 2017 (11th grade) and Class of 2016 (12 th grade)

A-E: Mrs. Sugg

F-M: Dr. Veronica

N-Z: Mrs. Moscovic

Seniors and Juniors:

Dr. Veronica, Mrs. Moscovic, and Mrs. Sugg will once again share the responsibility of teaching both College Planning and Career

Exploration. Seniors should be well prepared to begin their college application process beginning this month through the first semester. Juniors will begin Career Exploration after midyear exams.

The Common Application is now open and seniors can establish their new accounts. Tackling your college essay and thinking about who to ask for your recommendations would be wise as well. We will provide class time to answer questions and finish your college applications and update your resumes. Don’t forget to schedule a meeting with your counselor too!

Please make sure you review the college visit schedule in Guidance. Many admissions representatives will be coming onto campus to highlight their college or university. It is a great way to meet the admissions counselor that will most likely read your application and have your questions answered. Sign up in Guidance as visits begin during the first week of school.

Blue & Gold Annual Fund 101

Welcome to the Blue & Gold Annual Fund corner. Here you will find interesting information on the school’s 2 nd largest source of income, next to tuition.

But what exactly is the Blue & Gold Annual Fund? The Blue & Gold Annual Fund is an unrestricted fund that is an ongoing investment in the High School’s highest priorities. It is the lifeblood of the school, providing the much-needed operational funds that help keep

Canisius affordable for every student. Another way it helps is to provide scholarships and tuition assistance for deserving students whose families might not be able to pay the full cost of tuition.

This year, we are so excited to have Jim and Deb Wehrfritz, parents of Bill Wehrfritz ‘16, as our very first parent Chair Couple for the

Blue & Gold Annual Fund! Please be open to their calls and the opportunities they will offer you.

Watch your mail in late September for your Blue & Gold Annual Fund parent letter.

Until next month with another tidbit,

Mrs. Debbie Burke

Director of Annual Giving
