"ADVANCED ENDO COURSE” Tuesday, 13 January 2015 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Hall 2, Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center No. of Attendees: maximum of 25 participants TARGET AUDIENCE: Dentists/General Practitioners/Endodontists/PG/Board Residents PROF. FRANCESCO MANNOCCI Specialist in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry Private Practitioners Limited to Endodontics in Central London Prof Francesco Mannocci (MD,DDS,PhD, FHEA) is a Specialist in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry. He obtained his MD (Pisa, Italy, 1986) and DDS (Pisa, 1990) in Italy, and his PhD in Clinical Dentistry from King's College London in 2001. After having worked in private practice in Pisa for 18 years while collaborating with the University of Siena as a Visiting Professor he became Lecturer in Endodontology at King's College London in 2004, Senior lecturer/Honorary Consultant in 2006, Head of Endodontology in 2008, and Professor of Endodontology at King’s College London in 2010. Prof Mannocci has authored more than 90 papers in international peer reviewed journals. Prof Mannocci is Associate Editor of the International Endodontic Journal. Prof Mannocci has worked extensively on subjects including restoration of endodontically treated teeth, instrumentation techniques, dental anatomy, histology, endodontic radiology and endodontic microbiology. Prof Mannocci maintains a private practice limited to Endodontics in Central London. COURSE OBJECTIVES: Dentists will learn to achieve ease of obtaining a comfortable access to the canal orifices in the initial cavity access preparation. Overview of traditional techniques, their disadvantages Ni-Ti revolution – how it changed the endodontic procedure Choosing the best Ni-Ti instruments: taper, cutting/non-cutting blades and tip, flexibility and rigidness Overview of available motors/hand pieces: speed, torque, reverse Irrigation protocol Shaping protocol You will learn various techniques to manage severely curved canals with ease and increased efficiency. Learn techniques to simplify re-treatment cases. Three dimensional Obturation techniques thereby achieving optimal seal and enhanced success rate. Technological innovations have considerably changed endodontic procedures; cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), operative microscopes, ultrasonic and apex locators allow endodontists and general practitioners to appreciate as never before the complexity of the root canal system in a clinical context; root canal treatments of maxillary molars with 2mesio-buccal canals and of mandibular molars with 3 separate canals in the mesial root have become common; however while the number of “difficult” endodontic treatments has increased, the evolution of endodontic instruments has allowed a considerable simplification of instrumentation and obturation techniques. This course will go through some essential aspects of endodontic diagnosis including the use of CBCT, treatment planning, approach to challenging endodontic cases, the course will also describe the mechanical properties, the instrumentation sequence and the clinical advantages of ProTaper next, a new endodontic file fabricated using an innovative thermal-treatment process to create M-Wire NiTi. The use of the Endo-activator, an effective technique to enhance the effect of endodontic irrigants will be described. A new carrier based root canal obturation technique (GuttaCore) will be also presented. GuttaCore is the evolution of the Thermafill concept. In this new system the plastic carrier has been replaced with a cross-linked gutta-percha carrier, this material ensures an improved adhesion to the gutta-percha coating and permits a much easier removal of the carrier itself in case of retreatment.
