In the spirit of friendship, I would like to extend the exciting opportunity to join the mission of
Best Buddies in the state of (state). Best Buddies is an international non-profit organization
dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one
friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and
developmental disabilities. Best Buddies is working to spread the mission of friendship,
leadership, and inclusion in (state); we have recently established an opportunity to expand our
reach and would love to include (school name) in this movement.
Best Buddies is a campus-based club managed by a member of the Best Buddies staff. We
accomplish our mission by pairing students in one-to-one friendships with their peers with
intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since 1989, we have grown from one original chapter
at Georgetown University to more than 1,500 college, high school, and middle school campuses
across the country and in 50 countries around the world. In addition to creating mutually
enriching friendships which promote inclusion and acceptance, we provide leadership trainings
and opportunities for disability awareness.
The Best Buddies experience is valuable and rewarding opportunity for student volunteers.
Through their experience in Best Buddies, students with and without disabilities develop their
leadership and professional skills, and are empowered to make a positive impact in their
community. By participating in our programs, students collaborate with a global network of
advocates and develop their professional skills to lead an exciting, innovative program on their
campus. Through their experience, student leaders help shape a more socially aware and
accepting community for all students on campus. We find that for schools with Best Buddies
chapters, participants with intellectual and developmental disabilities feel more comfortable and
welcome in their school and participate in making valuable contributions to their campus and
community.
We would love to share this opportunity with your campus and invite you to join the Best
Buddies movement in (state). Best Buddies’ full time program staff will manage the chapter and
work with student leaders to ensure a successful program on campus with no additional
