By Abdulrahman Althani 9-C First I started by looking for a second service to begin with. I was looking for a service that takes 1 term, a whole term or more, so that I can take my time. After looking for a service, me and my friend thought and said lets join reading club, and to try it to see if it is good so that we can continue with the service. After going for the first time to the buddies we found out that it is fun and helpful for the young children, and it wasn’t useless. So after that we continued with the service. In reading buddies we have to go to the buddies in break and advisory, in a specific day and do our job or role. First we had the pre 3 class and you know, in pre 3 the children play so we go there and start playing with them and asking them easy questions, so that they can learn new things and new words. After a while the teacher that is responsible for the service changed my class. The other class were grade 3, so they were bigger and they can understand more than pre 3. So it was easy for us to talk to them and understand them while they understand us. In this project we worked together (the buddies and us) to let the children in pre 3 and in grade 3 to learn from us and to ask help for us when needed. In this service we had a lot of activities where we get together us and our buddies and start the activities with each other. There were times where the buddies had an assignment or a project and they gained information from us. So after all we worked as a community in all times before, in between and after the service. In this service our requirement is to to go to our buddies for 12 times, but the time ran out and some days I was absent and some days I had things to finish. But after all I went to the buddies for 8 times. When meeting my buddy I go their and help him with his things and give him useful information to get ready for senior school and to be better in his weaknesses. So that was my role in the service, and that is the only role for all the reading buddy group. Our plan is to go their every Sunday and see what help the want. But in between the service the teachers that are in charge of the service changed a little bit of the plan. Instead of going there and only helping them we go there and give them good and useful facts of comparing senior school with grade 3, 4 and 5. That wasn’t a big change but the bigger change was changing the classes, from pre 3 to grade 3. In grade 3 we really helped them but in pre 3 we only played with them, so this is big difference that we faced in the service. When visiting primary and grade 3, we remembered that days where we were the same age as them, and how there attitude toward studding and learning. And also that helped us and the grade 3 class to gain information about how it was when we were in grade 3 and how it is now. By telling them the things that we did and to remember the assignment that we had, and also to tell them the objects and items that we had in grade 3. So I think that the teacher there (Mr. Simpson) got so many information from us that helped him with many assignments and activities. The MYP Learner Profile I have chosen for this project is communicator. In this project we were communicating with each other in every part in this service. We were helping each other on the activities and the projects that the buddies had. We communicated with each other also by playing games that can help them with specific subjects, like for example math. The games that we played with them gave them more abilities to answer equations. I my self think that the project is successful and It will continue to be successful like this. But a good idea that I wish that they follow is to not let the buddies to be pre 3 or the young children, because us and the children don’t get any information or help and also it could be some how useless. After all I had a great time meeting the grade 3 class and to let them achieve something if they choose too.
