General Setting Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust is a very large tertiary level teaching hospital providing specialist services to 3-4 million people. The Ophthalmology department consists of 20 consultants covering the breadth of ophthalmic specialties. The glaucoma team is a professorial unit headed by Professor Stephen Vernon and Professor Anthony King. We provide a comprehensive service in the management of both, complex medical surgical glaucoma. Busy glaucoma clinics are undertaken each day by the consultant, glaucoma fellow, residents and optometrists. The department is well equipped with the latest imaging devices including retinal nerve fibre layer OCT and anterior segment OCT. Therapeutic lasers are performed which include SLT, cyclodiode and YAG lasers. We have 4 ophthalmic theatres housing Zeiss microscopes. High-volume Phacoemulsification is performed. Modern day Moorfields safe-surgery augmented trabeculectomy is undertaken as well as tube filtration surgery (Baervedlt and Ahmed). Paediatric glaucoma is also managed. The EGS fellow will be expected to participate in the assistance and performance of these procedures. The department has an active glaucoma research portfolio and the fellow will be expected to participate. We have various ongoing randomized clinical studies both locally and nationally. The EGS fellow will be trained in the management of both medical and surgical glaucoma. They will be an integral part of the glaucoma team and actively participate in clinical duties, glaucoma research and surgery. 1 PART II University Center.
