The EOC was good because it attempted to achieve equal opportunities for women. The
Equal Opportunities Commission was established in 1975 in order to enforce the terms of
the Equal Pay Act 1970 and the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. The EOC has been good for
women because it has worked to ensure that there is equal pay for like jobs and that there is
no discrimination in education, job recruitment and advertising on grounds of gender. Since
2007, the EOC has been part of the EHRC - the Equality and Human Rights
Commission - giving it a broader role for women’s rights.
