NSW POLICE FORCE MEDIA RELEASE Operation Duntulm Man charged with firearm offences, drugs seized Issued at 7.15pm Friday 9 January 2015 As a result of a NSW Police-led investigation, officers from the Joint Counter Terrorism Team (Sydney) have this morning arrested a man following the execution of a number of search warrants across south western Sydney. The warrants were executed at premises in Greenacre, Leppington, Condell Park and Punchbowl as part of a long-running investigation and not as a result of any specific terrorism threat. As a result of the police operation, a 33-year-old Greenacre man was arrested at premises in Chiswick Road, Greenacre, and has been charged with; Acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order Possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority The man has been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 10 January 2015). Police will allege a quantity of prohibited drugs were seized from another man when a second warrant was executed at premises in Punchbowl. Inquiries are continuing. Operation Duntulm, is an ongoing Joint Counter Terrorism Team (Sydney) investigation into alleged financial assistance and support being provided for foreign fighters overseas. Police involved in the operation today included the Joint Counter Terrorism Team Sydney, NSW Police Tactical Operations Unit, Public Order and Riot Squad, Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad and Bankstown Local Area Command. Assistant Commissioner Mark Murdoch, Commander of the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command said Operation Duntulm has been running for more than a year and is focused on a range of support mechanisms being provided for those who have left Australia and are now fighting overseas. Australian Federal Police Acting National Manager Counter Terrorism Peter Crozier said community safety was the primary objective of all Joint Counter Terrorism Team activities. “The priority for all agencies involved in these operations is to ensure the safety of the community, and we encourage all people to speak to us if they have any concerns or have information they wish to provide,” Acting Assistant Commissioner Crozier said “Now more than ever, it is important for the community and police to continue to work together and promote the diverse, inclusive and supportive society we have here in Australia.” The National Terrorism Public Alert Level remains at High, as it has been since it was raised on 12 September.
