7th Grade: Spring Semester - 2015
Classroom Procedures & Expectations
WARNING: This classroom is a place of HIGH expectations both behaviorally & academically.
Be prepared to be challenged! Let’s soar to new heights and become better individuals!
Behavioral:
 Line up in the hallway before class every day and Mr. Jones MUST give permission before
anyone enters.
 When entering class, you must remain silent or we will do it over until we can get it
correct.
 You will be marked tardy if you are not in line & against the wall or glass when the bell
rings.
o
If you are tardy you must sign into the “Tardy Log” which sits on a table to the right as soon as
you enter the room.
 1-3 Tardies : Verbal Warning
 4 Tardies : Verbal Warning & Phone call home or Email home
 5 Tardies : 2- Hour Tuesday Night School
 7 Tardies : 2-Hour Tuesday Night School
 8 Tardies : Office Referral
 When the bell rings Mr. Jones dismisses you, NOT the bell!
o
When you are dismissed calmly stand up, push your chair in, walk out of the classroom, and get to
your next class on time!
 There will be NO HALL PASSES unless Mr. Jones decides there is a valid reason for
you to leave the classroom.
o
If you do leave the room, you MUST sign-out on the Sign-In/Sign-Out sheet on the table by the
door.
 If you show up late to class and we are already in the room then you must do the
following:

Calmly knock on the door and patiently wait for someone to answer it.
If you have a Pass then place it in the “PASSES” basket AND sign-in on the Sign-In/Sign-Out
sheet which are both located on the table by the door and quietly get to your seat and join class.
If you do NOT have a pass then s quietly enter the room, take your seat and, and do your bell
ringer. Mr. Jones will write your name down on the Tardy Log and let you know what number you
are at.

 There is to be ABSOLUTELY no food, drink, gum, candy, etc.! Unless Mr. Jones gives
it to you then there is no reason for you have it with you in this classroom.
o Any of the above mentioned items will be confiscated and thrown in the trash.
 There is ABSOLUTELY no reason for you to have your cell phone or any other
electronic device with you in this classroom. Do not have it in your pocket or binder.
o If Mr. Jones sees an electronic device of yours then it will be confiscated and
given to the office and a parent or an adult from your household will have to come
pick it up.
 Do NOT brush your hair, comb your hair, pick your hair, put on lip gloss, put on makeup, or perform any other cosmetic need that should be taken care of at home before
school. This is not the appropriate time or place to take care of those needs. This is a
classroom which is a place of learning. This is not a bathroom which is the appropriate
venue for such behaviors.
o If Mr. Jones see you in possession of any grooming or cosmetic related object
then it will be confiscated and depending on the scenario given back to the student
when appropriate.
 You MUST bring a pencil to class every single day!

 The following are appropriate times to sharpen your pencil:

Small group activity
End of class
 You will refer to the teacher as Mr. Jones or Sir whenever you speak to him.
o He is not your buddy, pal, bro, or bruh!
 You will make eye contact with and face your body towards Mr. Jones whenever you are
speaking with Mr. Jones.
 If you have any questions then quietly & calmly raise your hand and Mr. Jones will call
on you as soon as possible. Be patient!

Do NOT wave and flail your arm around, repeatedly call Mr. Jones’s name, or get upset if Mr.
Jones is taking longer than you would like for him to. BE PATIENT & RESPECTFUL!
 When a classmate is sharing an idea, you are silently listening, attempting to make eye
contact with the individual, and facing your body towards the individual.
 There is to be no drumming on the tables while in Mr. Jones’s class. It is extremely
unproductive, rude, and annoying to everyone in the room. Be considerate of others.

 While at school and in Mr. Jones’s room there is absolutely use of any swear words!
 Practice personal space at all times. You should never be placing your hands, feet, or any
other part of your body on another student.
 When Mr. Jones is speaking you should not be speaking or getting up out of your seat.
That is rude.
 There will be assigned seats in Mr. Jones’s room. Do not argue with Mr. Jones about this.
If there is a serious issue with your seat placement in this class then discusses it with Mr.
Jones in private at the end of class.
 You must remain in your seat at all times. Both feet must be firmly planted on the ground
and your back must be against the back of the chair. (Absolutely no chair tipping. If you
happen to fall while chair tipping the entire class will be encouraged to point and laugh
at you. Mr. Jones will check on you to see if you are not seriously injured and then you
will have to stand the rest of the class period for your punishment.) You must get
permission to get up from your seat.
 There is no sleeping! Make sure to get sleep while at home during the evening. Your
brain functions better when it is fully rested.
 If Mr. Jones tells you to do something DO NOT argue. Mr. Jones is here to help you!

7th Grade: Spring Semester - 2015
Academic:
 Environmental Science is a science class which focuses on how humans impact the
environment.
 The following are the different types of assignments you will encounter in this class:
1. Bell ringer/Exit Question Page
2. Background Reading & Questions
3. Background Informational Notes & Questions
4. Lab Assignment
5. Quizzes
6. Journal Assignment
7. Advertisement Project
8. Pre & Post Test
 There will be daily Bell ringers & Exit questions. The Bell ringer/Exit question page will
be handed in every other Friday. This assignment is always worth 20 points; each bell
ringer question correctly answered is worth 1 point and each correctly answered exit
question is worth 1 point. This assignment cannot be made up.
 When encountering new topics in class there will be a lesson which introduces some key
terms and ideas. Either in the form of a reading assignment or there will be a notes
presentation given by Mr. Jones. At the conclusion of either of the introductory activities
there will be an activity to check for understanding.
 There will be lab activities for some of the lessons which will be an opportunity for you
to do some hands on learning. For all the lab assignments, collaborative learning is
encouraged and promoted.
 Quizzes will be given periodically to determine whether or not concepts are being
understood. Quizzes are to be completed individually.
 Journal assignments will be an opportunity for Mr. Jones to monitor whether or not
concepts are being comprehended. There will be a length requirement given for each
Journal assignment. I will grade for spelling and grammar as well. The following format
will be expected:
1. Restate the question/Journal topic and give an answer.
2. Give a reason why you believe that answer.
3. Support your answer with evidence. Multiple lines of evidence if you have them.
4. Restate the question/Journal topic and close the journal.
 The advertisement project is an assignment which will have you focusing on researching
a given topic and then creating a stimulating advertisement poster.
 There is a pre- and post- test which will be given to you at the beginning of the semester
and at the end of the semester. The pre- and post- test is the same exact test. The purpose
of this test is to quantifiably measure your academic growth on Environmental Science
content.

7th Grade: Spring Semester - 2015
 Place your name on top of every assignment. All turned in, “no name” assignments will
be thrown into the recycle or compost bin.
 If you do not understand an idea ask Mr. Jones for help. No question is a dumb question.
Do not be afraid to ask for help.
 There is no extra credit, or make up work. Due dates mean that an assignment is due.
 If an assignment is missing it can be handed in late but the score will automatically be
reduced.
 If you fall behind in this class you will be required to attend lunch & learn until you are
caught up.

Summary:
All of Mr. Jones’s procedures and rules can be reduced down to the following 5 core ideas:
1. Come to class on time.
2. Bring only the appropriate materials necessary for class.
3. Obey Mr. Jones.
4. Practice self-control
5. Strive for excellence on every task, every day, no matter what. No Excuses!
Practice these 5 core ideas daily and you will not only do well in this class, but also become a
better individual.
Message from Mr. Jones
“Please, do not underestimate your ability to significantly improve both behaviorally and
academically during this semester. I am here to assist in your upward transformation of a new
and improved you! Learning is your job. Do not forget why you are at school in the first place,
you are here to get an education. A good education will permanently unlock ‘doors’ in your life.
These doors I speak of are opportunities and options. Let’s have a great start to our second
semester of the 2015-2016 School year!”
