Misused Words
Students will need to understand the differences between these words and how they are used in
sentences
were: verb: past tense of “to be” We were planning to go to the park, but then it started to rain.
we’re: verb: contraction formed by combining the word we and are. We’re going to soccer practice.
No-Excuse Words
Students must spell these word correctly for the test and in everyday work.

scribe (verb): to write (also can be used as a noun to refer to the person who is doing the writing)
describe (verb): to tells someone the appearance, smell, sound, or event or something or someone
prescribe (verb): to officially tell someone to use a treatment (written before they use it)
transcribe (verb): to make a written copy of something
telegraph (noun): a system of sending messages over a long distance
autograph (noun): a person’s written signature
Words of the Day
Students will be introduced to a new word each day and will be responsible for knowing the definition.
This week, all our words will include the roots scribe and graph- which mean to write.
Grammar Skill
Students will need to be able to use the following grammar skill appropriately in their writing
Relative pronouns and relative adverbs
Relative Pronouns: pronouns that do not refer to a specific antecedent (noun)
(who, whose, whom, which, that)
Relative Adverbs: pronouns that do not refer to a specific verb
(where, when, why)
