Level 4 – Tree Name of Green Team: ed: __________________ Date submitt Contact Email: Education & Outreach We have contacted other Green Teams in our building or on campus to discuss potential opp ortunities for collaboration. We have offered guidance, suggestions, and information about initiatives we’ve pursued to at least one other Green Team. (We can contact the Green Teams Coordinator at iugt@indiana.edu for potential teams to reach out to based on team need, similarities in office size and building autonomy, etc.) We inspired _______________ to pursue the formation of a Green Team. (Ex: a newly formed or previously established IU department) Our team has explored possible service learning opportunities for students related to sus tainability and the environment. We have reached out to a student organization involved with issues of sustainability to ask if they would be interested in assisting with some of our planned initiatives. We worked with the Green Teams Coordinator to write-up a story on our Green Office program. We volunteer with a Bloomington community agency at least once per academic year. We have reviewed our actions from Level 3 – Sapling to ensure we are still practicing those actions. Resource Use / Recycling All office paper is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Our office uses 100% recycled content paper for printing. As many departmental publications as possible are paperless. Once per academic year we participate in a department wide supplies exchange and donate excess materials to IU Surplus. To reduce transportation emissions and packaging, we combine delivery orders for office supplies and equipment whenever possible. Sustainable Computing We have learned about and installed the GoGreen Gadget on all PC computers and contacted co-workers about the benefits of the GoGreen Gadget via email or at a work meeting. Energy & Built Environment Whenever possible, all new equipment purchased for our unit is Energy Star-rated or equivalent. Power strips are utilized for easy access to unplug several appliances at once. We have signed up to participate in the IU Energy Challenge and have actively campaigned for building-wide participation. To ensure that electronic devices are only on during hours of use, we have utilized smart strips or timers. Working with Building Services personnel, we have utilized our requested utilities information to complete an unofficial audit of our unit’s water and electricity usage. Transportation The person responsible for booking travel chooses greener transportation options when cost-effective (for example, using a shuttle to and from airport, choosing nonstop flights, renting high-mpg vehicles, or taking public transportation). We include green transit options as part of new employee orientation. Food We have established an on-site kitchen compost bin. We have established an on-site vermicompost bin. We have established an outdoor compost bin. Our kitchen(s) and break room(s) are stocked with Green Seal certified cleaning materials . Events & Meetings We have held a certified Green Event using the IUOS Green Events checklist. When cost effective, we consider lodging with one of the following certifications: US EPA Energy Star Label for Hospitality, Green Hotels Association, or Eco Rooms. Innovation Insert any departmental innovations related to sustainability not included in the checklist here. An unlimited number of initiatives may be added. Example innovations include: Switching from hard copy printing of a major publication to an electronic version Consolidating printers in the office by eliminating individual printers from work stations Providing foods for break rooms or events such as sugar, salt, and condiments in bulk containers to reduce waste Members of our Green Team attended the semi-annual Office of Sustainability Internship Symposium Replacing a bottled water system with a simple water filtration system, or by switching to tap water Completing a Sapling-level action not previously pursued Collaborating with the Office of Sustainability to hold an event (Big Red Eats Green, the semi-annual IUOS Internship Symposium, an IUOS Intern building tour) in our department or building Note: Tree Certification is achieved when 75% of total initiatives listed have been pursued (including inno vation credits, which can be pursued in place of other initiatives listed)
