Bad Gögging – English information
Bad Gögging is a venerable spa with a 2000-year history which today embraces the modern trend
of medical wellness. It is the only spa in Bavaria to offer three naturally occurring and
acknowledged curative resources:
-
sulphur, used as early as Roman times to treat joint problems
-
thermal mud, which generates deep heat and opens the pores, enabling the skin to
absorb its minerals
-
thermal mineral water in the modern Limes-Therme baths, where 15 tubs and pools
with over 1200 square metres of water provide a refreshing and invigorating opportunity
to soak up health and wellbeing.
Location
Bad Gögging is in the heart of Bavaria, on the banks of the River Danube between the cities of
Ingolstadt and Regensburg. It is easy to reach from Munich International Airport (approx. 40
minutes), the A 93 motorway (12 km) and by rail (Ingolstadt-Regensburg line, station Neustadt).
Places of interest
A rebuilt roman watchtower near Bad Gögging signals the starting-point of the fortified Rhaetian
wall known as "Limes", built by the Romans to keep out the Germanic invaders and today a
UNESCO World Heritage Site. The foundations of Castrum Abusina bear witness to the
military might of the Roman Empire. Excavations and archaeological discoveries under the early
medieval Church of St. Andreas have uncovered a 2000-year-old Roman bath complex which
was the largest of its kind north of the Alps.
Bad Gögging is located in one of Germany’s finest asparagus-growing regions. In spring,
visitors can find out how asparagus is grown and harvested and enjoy the delicious gourmet
vegetable fresh from the field.

Tourist-Information Bad Gögging
Hop shoots, known locally as “hop asparagus” (Hopfenspargel), are a rare seasonal treat,
gathered in the spring; the famous Hallertau hops which supply them grow to over 7 metres
high and are harvested in late summer, accompanied by a host of traditional events and
celebrations.
Suggested Excursions
Excursion to the world-famous Kloster Weltenburg abbey in the Danube gorge, tour of
Asamkirche Baroque church and hearty snack with home-brewed beer, followed by a boat trip to
the ancient ducal city of Kelheim.
Excursion to Regensburg’s rich array of historic sights from the Cathedral to the ancient
Steinerne Brücke bridge – also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Excursion to the romantic Altmühl valley or visit to nearby Ingolstadt, a city spanning historic
sights and state-of-the-art automotive technology.
