Laker Lunch Day this Thursday! We are firing up the barbecues

Jr. and Sr. Boys RUGBY meeting Thursday at lunch in room
306 for all interested grade 9 – 12 rugby players interested in
playing on the Jr. or Sr. team this spring.
Forensic club members: The first meeting/lab will be held
Thursday, February 4th at 3:15 in room 216. If you cannot
attend please touch base with Mr. Harkness or Mr. Arcuri.

donation ($5 recommended). There will be a free lunchtime
show on Tuesday, January 19th. Come check it out!
GRADE 9’S: Now is a good time to start reviewing for your
mid-terms and finals that begin in 2 weeks. To help you,
Senior Leadership will be hosting two after school “cocoa and
cram” sessions in the library next week. Tuesday, Jan. 19 3pm4:15pm and Thursday, January 21 3pm-4:15pm. Senior
students will be available to assist with study strategies and
tutoring. Hot chocolate and goodies will be provided. All are
welcome. Teachers are invited as well!
The Aboriginal Education program will be hosting a free
Pancake Breakfast on Friday January 22nd to celebrate the
end of Semester 1. Pancakes and hot chocolate will be available
to ALL students and staff from 7:30am until the batter runs out.
Please come to room 101 to get a free pancake breakfast on the
last day of semester 1! Chocolate pancakes available upon
request.

The Jean Minguy RCMP Memorial Youth Academy
Application packages are now available for this one week long
RCMP Training Academy being held from Sunday, May 1 to
Saturday, May 7, 2016 at the Vernon Army Cadet Camp. This
challenging program is open to Grade 11 and 12 students who
are interested in police work or law enforcement as a possible
future career. An application and physical test are required for
students to qualify. If selected, students will participate in
activities similar to those that a police cadet would experience
during basic training. They will receive instruction and lectures on
law, police tactics, social skills, physical training, self-defense and
a variety of other topics. The application deadline is January
22, 2016. For more information please come to the Careers
Office.

the Full sessions at the Penticton Recreation Center.

**Additional Documentation
Students who apply on-line will need to supply the following
additional documentation:
• Interim statement of secondary school grades.
• A written appraisal from your secondary school Principal (or
designate).
• At least one reference letter confirming your school and/or
community involvement.
Students applying for the Presidents Entrance should refer to the
application form for details of additional documentation required,

**Remember that these written appraisals are key to helping
awards committees decide on award recipients so provide as
much detail as you can. Documentation can be emailed to
awards@okanagan.bc.ca, students should include their full name,
student ID number (300-xxx-xxx) and award(s) applied for in the

The Council of Forest Industries is very pleased to once again
offer ten $1000.00 scholarships to deserving 2016 graduating
high school students enrolling in one of the 10 BC interior postsecondary institutions for September 2016. These scholarships
are open to students enrolling in technical trades, business, or

award of $2500 and ten awards of $1000. Contest closes April

The Rick and Yasmin Thorpe and Friends Entrance
Scholarship assist students who are a graduate of, or will be
graduating from, a secondary school located on the west side of
Okanagan Lake, from Penticton to Killiney Beach, who register in
full-time studies at UBC Okanagan in any one of the following
programs:
Management, Engineering, English, or Creative
Writing. The scholarship provides entering students a one-year,
non-renewable external Entrance Scholarship of $2,500. If you
are a strong academic student and demonstrate financial need in

Interior Savings Million Dollar Bursary Program
To help support young people in our communities and their plans
for furthering their education, Interior Savings has introduced a
new component to its Member Rewards Program. The Million
Dollar Bursary will provide up to 1,000 post-secondary bursaries,
each valued at $1,000, to students between the ages of 17-24
years old in the Interior Region of British Columbia.
Interior Savings has made a commitment to providing this bursary
for three years (2014, 2015, and 2016), representing a total
funding pledge of up to $3 million. For the 2016 bursary
allocation, eligible students must be a member of Interior Savings
by February 1, 2016 and apply for the bursary by May 1, 2016.
