NORTHERN SQUAD 2014 APPLICATION FORM NORTHERN TERA SQUAD 2014 - INFORMATION AND APPLICATION FORM Following the success of the 2013 Northern Squad programme we will be offering a programme of race coaching for Northern Tera sailors over the winter months. This will be in addition to the normal coaching run across the region and within clubs over the summer months and is designed to provide those who are already racing at regional and national level the chance to improve their skills. The lead coaches will once again be Brett Cokayne and Bernard Clark and they will be joined by Katy Phillips and our Youth Coach. We are very grateful to the RYA’s Regional HPM, Chris Blackburn, for his ongoing support for our coaching programme. Applications are to be returned to Nicky Leech by 29 September or at the Zone Championships. Applications will be considered against the following criteria: 1. Proven race record at national/international level within the class (Sport and Pro sailors) 2. Proven race record at regional level in the class, or in the YHYSA or NEYTS series (Sport and Pro sailors) 3. Assessment of ability at the Zone Championships (Sport sailors) This coaching is not suitable for those who are new to the class and who have little or no experience of racing. Coaching and support for these sailors will be provided by clubs when weather conditions are more suitable. If there is sufficient demand for open coaching during the summer we will look at organising sessions. There is a limit of 15 places, and the coaching will be for both Sport and Pro rig sailors. You are expected to have your own boat and for that boat to be set up with easily adjustable multi-purchase kicker, downhaul, outhaul etc. You will need to be capable of sailing in both light and strong winds and be prepared to get cold and wet. You should have a dry-suit or well fitting winter steamer (summer wetsuits are not suitable for this coaching). The coaching will follow a structured programme with on and off the water sessions, and as a result of this participants are required to commit to attend all sessions. In the event that we receive a high number of applications priority will be given to those sailors who meet the criteria above but are not receiving coaching as a member of the RS Tera National squad. The provisional programme for the coaching is shown below: Session 1 2 3 4 5 6 Date 8 and 9 November 2014 15 and 16 November 2014 13 December 2014* 10 and 11 January 2015 7 and 8 February 2015 7 and 8 March 2015 Venue Derwent Reservoir SC Derwent Reservoir SC Yorkshire Dales SC Ripon SC Ripon SC Venue tbc There will be a £150 charge per person for the coaching.
